Ever have a bird hit the ground so hard it bruised the meat and ruined it? I had one with a real bloody breast but no shot through it. Could this be why?

According to CSI the other night bruising can't occur after something is dead.

My deer last fall took a real long tumble down a steep hill. Before we got close he thrashed around on a hollow for a few seconds. The ribs and neck were so badly bruised they were dog food, obviously the deer wasn't dead before the tumble, maybe your duck died after the first bounce????

Not that I kept real close counts on all the ducks and geese shot there where lots that did not die instantly from being shot out of the sky.
You know a broken wing and they would flap like mad falling from the sky.
Then either they where dead after wringing of the neck or a smack with the gun butt.
Just soak the duck in salt water for a few hours before cooking and all will be good.

alot of ducks dont die at the first shot out ouf the air. think about the grouse. I've never had a "bang-flop" grouse. always "bang dance around for a while"
