Almost we were driving to a spot to say goodbye to some friends that passed away last year and he was sitting on a slide with a nannie and a kid. We left camp at 5:00pm and had him in the truck at 7:30 not a hard hunt but we did see 8 other goats in the distance this one was the easy one. Beginners luck i guess.

Here is some I have taken over the years.

It was a tough hunt. Drove 2/3 of the way up the mountain. Walked for ~20 min and spotted him sleeping in no mans land. This was at 8 am. So we waited and waited. My buddy ran out of matches to light his cigarettes, so we positioned the spotting scope on the sun and dailed it in to become the lighter. Worked like a charm:mrgreen:.

At 4:30 he came off the mountain and began top feed. It took me an hour to get into position, two shots through his shoulders and he was down. he was the bigges bodied goat I have ever killed. Est live weight was between 275-300 lbs.

Good eats as well.

The one on the left is my first one and it was a Nanny taken in Castlegar in 87, the one on the right was up north and was also a good body.

Fun and addictiing animals. One of my favorite animals to chase.

Cheers

Bow kill goat, it fell and tumbled over 200 ft and free fell another 100ft or so, thus the cuts, scrapes, massive bruising and smashed in mouth/nose area and broken horn tips and front leg. (buddy video'ed it from an adjacent mountain). I could not reach the goat from where i shot it, had to climb down the mountain, walk along the creek in the valley bottom and then up again to reach it.

So whats the point of shooting something you know you can't retrieve without making hamberger of it?
I refuse to let fly in those circumstances. Yes sometimes I go home empty because of it.

A few things can happen in the time it takes a goat to die from an arrow. They're damn tough animals. You can't attempt to anchor them on the spot with a bow like you can with a rifle.

Wow does that statement ever show your inexperience with hunting, especially goats!!

As SSS said and all hunters with any experience know and understand, animals are more likely to run or bolt rather than flop when shot with a bow or a rifle.

In this case I had climbed above the goat on the mtn, (FYI animals look for danger from below rather than above) and had a 30 yd shot 1/4ering away. I put the arrow through both lungs and it ran horizontally on the mountain about 50 yds to an inaccessable ledge and bedded down. It laid there for a minute or so and then placed its hind feet against the mountain, looked over the edge and pushed itself off the ledge (suicide style) and down it went.

Tomo man,
to each his own I was only stating a point, I just turn them down when they are in places like that. But man you must be the most experienced out there, and one of the Best.
If a guy wants burger, if you can salvage it, and a mount to look like Scare Face ...... fill your boots or in your case .... your tag. I'd rather take a picture and go home empty then have that happen.
CT

Don't any body dare sate an opinion on here.

You are intitles to your opinion, but you have abviously never hunted goats before.

They live is some of the toughest terrain around, they can climb like nothing else and are the toughest animal to kill, by a long shot.

You will rarely find a goat out on an open "field" where you can shoot them and they will run a little ways and fall over. Just does not happen very often.

Goat hunting and goats are tough, so sometimes you need to put up with a little bit of hamburger to kill a goat.

Nice animals everyone!!!!

Wrong again Sitka, hunted them and shot them too, never shot one in an area to make burger or Scare Face out of them though.
Last 2 seasons, turned 2 good Bills down for the Very reason of possibly loosing the trophy, the meat and My life.

Check out Goat Success lets see em page 13, posted for me by Shanevg.

In those cases I've taken the pic's home for the memories, you don't always have to kill something to be successful. Matter fact it takes a bigger hunter to turn something down and walk away then risk the dissatisfaction I would personally have to not take all edible portions out and risk loosing the trophy ta-boot.

Love the self called professionals on here.

I never like to see them get too banged up, but it happens. It's going to happen to every goat hunter if you hunt them long enough.

With all due respect, no hunter shoots an animal believing that it is going to fall off a cliff. Every shot animal reacts differently based on the shot placement and its reaction to the stress of being hit. In my case the last thing I thought of was that it would fall the way it did, I am a meat hunter (read the signature line) and love goat meat.

I have taken lots of pictures of goats and passed up several shots that I knew or thought would not turn out favourably for retreiving the animal but the fact of the matter is if you hunt enough, shit will eventually happen as was the case with this goat.
