Went out on the quad this afternoon in my favorite hunting spot. In 3 hours of quading i saw 2 moose, 12 whiteys, and 60 muleys! Not an antler to be seen so they must have dropped but none to be found. :-|

Wow thats alot of animals. A question though. Would you expect to see animals in the same area in the fall or is it to early to scout out new areas? I want to start scouting as soon as possible, because of the limited free time i have away from the family.

i do see animals in the same place in the fall, as i said its my favorite hunting spot. its also a major wintering ground as well. some animals stay in the winter grounds some move back to the high country. it never hurts to scout, cuz its always good to get out!

Majority of bucks have shed, i picked up 1 fresh large 2 point this weekend and 3 moose sheds. I picked up 7 fresh muley sheds on tuesday, see the pics at huntshoot.

i read somewhere that deer usually only travel within a 4 km range between summer and winter ranges so if you think about it its probably from the top of the mountain to the bottom

That is crazy. Mule deer in the Horsefly area migrate all the way to the Fraser as well as a lot of the mule deer on the Bonaparte Plateau. We are talking 50,60,70 kms. Around here, only pockets stay back but the majority head for the river.

that would definately depend on the terrain, i could see that applying around okanogan, and other valley towns. but i know other areas where deer travel quite far.

I think thats more of a whitetail thing and it would have to exclude mountian WT.

Isn't that typical, as soon the hunting season is over we see all sorts of critters in great numbers.;)

I went out to sight in my .22 in the bush today, usually go where I see one of the elk herds around town, and I saw tons of tracks that were very fresh, in the last 12 hours, first time I saw the tracks there in the last week, so they must move back and forth from 2 places or sumthing... Lots of tracks though!!!! But I did managed to spot 6 whitetails, about 20 muleys, 4 of which were small spikes and fork bucks...Suprised they didnt shed yet!!! And one fawn had a broken leg, he could barely walk around in the foot and a half deep snow!! :( Poor thing

Cliff, if you talk to Al Lay, he will probably give you a permit to dispatch that poor little deer. The meat likely won't be any good for anything other than yote bait though. Fred

Ya, well I might give him a ding here pretty soon and let him know, I see a few deer where they have bummed legs, that will need to be put down, their jus gunna get killed bye coyotes or cougars sooner or later!
