I was searching around on the web and came across this first aid tool for penetrating wounds such as knife and gunshot wounds. Not sure if anyone has posted this on here or not but take a look at this link:
http://www.celoxmedical.com/prods_celoxa.htm
This stuff is a coagulant powder in an applicator that can be applied right inside a wound to stop major bleeding. The stuff is pretty expensive but might be a pretty good addition to a hunting party first aid kit. There are a couple different kinds of this product including powder and gauze forms along with the applicator.
Just thought I would pass it along in case anyone is interested.
hope the link works.

edit: There is a video demo on this stuff on this link

Cabelas and other stores sell it as.
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0048462517925a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&No=18&QueryText=first+aid&Ntk=Products&sort=all&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1
I was looking at it down there and was going to pick some up but I forgot to grab it before I left. Will get some the next time I am at Cabelas.

I have seen those at Cabela's before but the neat part about the celox was the applicator that you can actually shove into the wound and seal up the innards so to speak...
That and some of these quick clotting agents use a burning cauderizing (sp) to scab over the wound which when I looked the celox does not appear to use as it seems to gell the blood somehow.

The applicator is neat but you better be sure it's really bad before you stick that thing in my wounds "as deep as possible" like the video said!! Better than dying but OUCH!!!!
