This guy kept following us for 2 days. He was sure curious and wasnt afraid to get with 10-15ft sometimes, but never showed aggression. Hopefully he's still running around and wasnt picked off by someone.

He looked small to me but I am not bear expert.....thoughts??

Around 3 years?? He'd be good meat bear, but the smaller ones can be a lot of work for 40 or 50 lbs of meat.

generally , black bears stay with their mother until after the 2nd winter, so in light of that i would say he is at least 3, or very close to it.

I would wager 2-3. Just remember though, he's not your friend Timmy. :-D

ps I'd shoot him for pepperoni, no thinking.

That would explain his curiosity.
1 or 2 months past 2 years and the sow just sent him packing.

Blackies can live up to 30 years. Polar bears can live to 40 years.
That is news to me. Just thought I'd share it.
I would have guessed they lived half that.

That's a very young bear, looks to me like he should have had more time with ma, his following you around indicates that as well.

I've noticed quite a few guys saying 2 to 2.5 years old. I am certain cubs stay with the sow for 2.5 years. any comments.

The old lady usually boots them out at 2 so she can have nookie again. The 2 year olds are pretty stupid and lonely. That`s why so many of them get in trouble in towns, campsites,Ect.

Most often it's the larger Boars that send the 2 year olds packing so they may begin courting the females in late spring.
But that's just been my observation over the years....

Oh and that bear is most likely 2-3 as suggested !

Bear cubs are born in the winter, (lets say January or Feb) and stay with thier mothers until they come out of their first hibernation and into the spring/early summer. So about 15-18 months.
