The only ducks I can name off the top of my head are Wood ducks, mallard ducks and widgeons. But I understand that there are a few different types of widgeons and alot of different types of ducks. I would like to know the different types of ducks and how rare they are. Can you help me out???

Get a good bird book, it might take a while to find one that lists euro ducks that occur in Canada and USA. You'll find that most species listed occur in the west although some will be rare. But while we're talking rare ducks I wonder if anyone has seen or shot a Black Duck or a Mallard/Black hybrid in B.C. I know it's along shot but stranger things have happened. I hope I didn't hijack the original question.

The DU website has a good waterfowl ID section. It has real pictures and even sound clips, and a whole ton of info about that species including where to find them and typical habitat etc. Hope that helps!
