For those seeking trophy bear, what GENERAL areas of the province hold the highest concentration of bear? Maybe argue for the top three?

if your looking for a 20 inch bear (skull size) or better, i'd hunt anywhere along the coast.

how's that for general? :P

I believe vancouver Island has the highest concentration of bears.
However i would imagine as showtimebc said, along the coast will increase your odds of finding a true trophy. Those tidal water grass flat bears get mighty big since nodoby can shoot them from a road.

Anywhere you find bears will have a kingpin boar wandering around, but like a big buck, they aren't stupid. I would concentrate on
the areas you plan to hunt when they first emerge (food sources are concentrated) or the end of may-beginning of june when they are really covering ground looking for a hot sow. Like bucks, when they find a mate they often 'do it under cover'

Yep that's where I'd start.........but for sheer number of Big Bears and the "ease" at which they can be found, Van Isle all the way.

But flip through the BC books and plenty of Big bears have come from every corner of BC, so I'd say Big Blackies are where you find them

Yup, there's some big ones in there!! That is where I go! Tumuch/Bowron has some doozies too! Walker Creek/Domecreek! Or some of the biggest blackies I have ever seen were up north of Mackenzie around the Messalinka,/Rasberry/Factor Ross area!! I seen one killed in the Raspberry must have been at least 6.5' er! They sure like the fiddle heads in the spring! Moosin

Whistler village has a couple of good ones-and they'd love it if you made a mount out of a couple of 'em. ;)

When riding my bicycle through the Sayward area, I was warned by the local forestry to be especially wary of the local black bears when camping etc. They told me that the bears in that area are above average in size, and are more aggressive in nature.....if I were looking for a trophy, I would start looking along the coast there.

I've seen some HUGE bears in the alpine above the fraser valley. and seen plenty of bears elsewhere that were not as big.
But then again, I spend most of my time in the fv and I'm sure there's big bears all over the prov.
