Did anyone that hunted northern region 8 find that there was hardly any whitetail deer this year or is it just me?

was talking about the Enderby/Ashton Creek area. There are always lots of whities down south.

They simply were not where you looked.
Change it up a bit. Keep looking. They're there.

Old man buggered up on a big whitey and saw bucks around there. Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Starting to get a lot of wolves in that country mind you.

So says the local GO. Of course, this video (http://www.chbcnews.ca/video/index.html?releasePID=ezzJ45Xt0rs1HxrmVgfrIMe37LPo pYkh) seems to prove him wrong (again). The GO would rather see 200 deer killed by cars per year than endorse the BCWF's proposals for hunting opportunities for resident hunters.

I don't know?..maybe in the back yard?. I think the freezer:-D and up the tag limit to 2 WT. Shotgun zone- 1 buck, 1 doe. Something like that. I remember not that long ago hunting the Burrel ck, we had a 2 limit on Wt and it never put a dent in the population. But it took some of the pressure off the mulies:-D.

Definitely wasn't a shortage of deer in Region 8. I don't think there ever will be. Everyone I know either had success or at least a chance at nice bucks.

I live in Northern Region 8,and there are more whitetails than we need here.I'm not saying that big bucks are easy to shoot here. They are the same as everywhere else in their range, they don't get big by being dumb! Gunner

I live in 8-15 and found whitetails way down this year. Yes there are lots inside Grand Forks city limits, but once you get outside that valley bottom you don't see many. I am not just talking about this hunting season, numbers were down from the spring forward and since I moved here in 1977 numbers have seemed to be down since the late 80's then dropping off in 97. The deer that live in the towns of Grand Forks and Christina Lake seem to be doing OK but the ones in the mountains are down. Even the numbers on the Golf course at Christina lake are down, last year I would count right around 40 and this year it was right around 17. Those counts were the same for about the last two weeks of season this year and last.Elk and Moose numbers are up but both deer numbers are down from even a few years ago.

I will have to respectfully disagree with you. We have been in the mountains around both areas for the past few years and the deer numbers seem to be very healthy. If anything I think the population is climbing.

Some thirty-five or so years ago I used to hunt an area of northerly 8, with a couple of young sons. There were wt deer, but not that many.
Now, my two grand sons are hunting that same country and for the last four years, have each got a whitetail buck every year. Their uncle got one this year that looks like, when final 60 day measurement comes, will make the record books.
So, either there are more deer, or the grand sons are better hunters than were their grampa and dads!

I found this buck this year. But the only other wt bucks I saw this season were a pair of spikers. Saw lots of does early in the season, but even they seemed to disappear as time got on. I had a doe draw and couldn't collect on it! Sightings seem to be way down, but the deer are there. Saw rubs, game trails, lots of BIG track, but it seemed the deer went nocturnal. I was the only one in my family (and you know who they are) who got a whitey this year. On the other hand, I saw moose everywhere this year.
Am thinking about getting and setting up a game camera in order to "see" what I'm missing seeing.

yes the tree camera definaly lets you know what your missing when your not there. its quite interesting when you can actually see what makes those big tracks and rubs.
