With big game season over with, predator hunting is in full swing! The season has been ok so far with a few coyotes on the ground!

Yesterday afternoon, woodrow, ruttingbuck and myself headed out to check our three baits. There was no activity on the first two so we headed to the last where we had seen quite a bit of fresh wolf activity. The bait we put out (a whole mature cow) last weekend was all but gone when we checked it Saturday morning so we knew the wolves were in the area. Jokingly we commented about how you always see tracks but never get lucky enough to catch the pack out in the open.

As we were walking up to the shooting spot for our bait, woodrow whispered loudly.."wolves'...all three of us hit the ground and belly crawled up to where we had intended to shoot from. As I scanned the field, we saw 3 wolves at about 400+yds. We decided to be patient as they had no idea we were there and weren't going anywhere. Patience paid off as they moved across the field towards the bait. As we waited, we started to se a couple more in the distance moving in and out of the timber. I looked at the bait quickly and counted 3 for sure. The three of us bellied crawled further into the field to move into a position where all 3 of us could shoot. Once we were set up, I could see one coyote colored wolf on the left side of the bait and 2 black ones on the right. We practiced a cadence count down a few times then once the wolf on the left (mine) turned broadside I counted "1,2,3 BOOM" I hit mine behind the shoulder with a 50gr VMAX and he took off on a full run. To our suprise, after the 3 in 1 shot from us, there were 5 wolves in total running from the bait. All hell broke loose as we emptied our guns on the running wolves.

Mine died about 125yds from the bait and one other wounded black wolf ran into the timber. We tracked him in the snow for about 600yds or so before we caught up to it. It was getting dark by now and I thought it was a huge stump until it turned it's head and looked at me at about 5yds in some blowdown! Ruttingbuck passed me his gun and I tipped it over, looked down the barrel, fired and our second wolf was down!

All in all, an awesome evening out! Two less deer killers out there! They are both beautiful animals and quite large. Not the biggest out there but still huge dogs! Mine is a male and woodrow and ruttingbucks (not sure who got what rounds into it) is the black female.

Enjoy the pics!

My Rem700 Varmit .22-250.....wished I would've had my 7RM though, especially for the ones all standing in line!! I've gotten double coyotes in one shot like that before. Never happen with the VMAX's though!!

I think we all "missed" a few times after they all scattered across the field! The black one has a couple of holes so woodrow and ruttingbuck may have shot the same wolf of the hip hop as they were stacked together and tough to distinguish! Oh well, 2's better than none!

Bet the boys in Montana and Idaho are jealous!Thank God that we are allowed to hunt wolves(except in Region 8,but that's another story!).Wolves in BC are managed as any other game animal, and that's the way it should be.Good shootin' guys, you have a couple of awesome trophies there! Gunner

Good job guys, really healthy looking dogs. looks like they have been eating well (not anymore) lol .
Dont you guys worry about Hydatid disease handling those muts without gloves ? Even without the risk of Hydatid, I have heard they are pretty stinky beasts... I dont think I would be touching them

any plans for them?

The taxidermist just came by and picked them up...we're keeping the skulls (she's going to clean them up) and she'll do whatever she wants with the hides. She said she'll probably do a rug mount with the bigger one.
