1972 the Besa River frozon over the first 2 weeks of Nov.

brings back a lot of memories we used to hunt in the besa nevis creek area about that time too. lots of caribou back then as well as moose. icy sidehills made interesting travel along the old road.

Yes bridger thats when it was good hunting ,I saw 200 moose in a two week trip in this area one year.

Bridger was it you we met back in 1972 that had them home made track units ???? ,they would go anywhere in the muskeg.

no that was a guy named mike ostryk. he made a couple of early atv/s we were the guys with the beer that froze inside our cheap sleeping bags it was so damn cold.

Have hunted the liard river near lower post for 20 years, moose behind every tree. Almost. Hell of a drive.

I got the same offer Wayne, if your in Langford call me and I'll scan your pictures before they get too yellow, and put them on a disk for you. Or when I'm racing at Saratoga next season, bring them to the track.

Brings back great memories! I also hunted that area frequently in the 70's.....can remember seeing 60 moose in one day! :-D

unfortunately atv's were invented and the resulting access is the reason you can't see 200 moose in there anymore plus the fact that the outfitter of the time kept close track of the wolf population. a side note-- i am not anti atv own four of them myself. but in the old days the only time you could access the nevis creek valley was in late november when thing froze up and the season was almost over. then you had to pretty well chain up all four tires and hope you could get your truck started in -30 weather. now there is no one doing predator management and access is pretty well open year around. no right or wrong just the way it is.

did you ever drift the liard? how was it.did it about thirty years ago with my dad,up in the nwt.heading for the nahanni,never saw a moose
