I figured i have something big enough for the books why not put it in there thats if they will with it having a hole in it but doesn't affect the score hopefully

Not 100% sure but I don't think cracked skulls can be entered.

Cranker of a bear though regardless if there's an "official" score or not.:)

I hate when people shoot big bears in the melon. Why do people do that??

I measured a black I shot years ago on the island and I came up 1\6 short from an official scorer ,I used two small squares to do the measuring ,put a square on ether end of the skull at the longest point ,front teeth to rear skull ,then on the longest point between the check bones on ether side, then add the two together ,you come within a 1/8 of an inch off the what an offical score would.

I think you will be disappointed.........

Tried to get a 21" skull scored and that was the word back then..........course that was long ago ?

Sounds like a Great bear at any rate but next time tell Buddy to aim a little lower:-D

Don't know why other people do it. I have an extremely large black bear on the wall that I shot bayed up over hounds. Since he wasn't about to climb a tree and I didn't want to risk getting my friend's dogs chewed up or killed I had two choices; in the head or in the neck. When my crosshairs settled on him I made a clean shot to the side of the bear's head that took him down instantly without so much as a twitch. No hurt dogs & no book skull. His skull would have measured between 20.5" & 20.625". I'd do the same thing again in the same circumstances.

If the skull has not come apart and you did not break the orbit bones(around the eyes) you should be OK.I think.

I said that because the 2 biggest bears that I've been in on both took a blast to the melon.....and one was from me on my buddy's grizz (I also had a draw)
