Hello everyone,

This is my first thread. I am interested in flying into the Spatsizi for a sheep hunt, and would like to get feed back from anyone who has hunted the area. Backpack hunt? Where to fly into, as in what lake? and any other useful information that could be provided.

Thanks

NorthernWeatherby.

You might want to start with a joke.. Unless your post was an attempt at humor?

Tough to get sheep answers on your first post anyhow.....Leadpill PM me if you want some sheep hints for Spatsizi.

The one hint I can give you is there is no need to fly in.....

Region 6 sheep draws start early..Aug 1st. That way the lucky draw holder has plenty of time to plan his/her big adventure..:-D

digger dogger:

Notification of draws sent out Feb 20th 2010. How much earlier do you need? All other draws are sent out after June 12th and should be recieved by July 16th. So looking at that gives you more time to plan a region 6 hunt than anywhere else...

so we can start to put in now now, if you put in for stones can you put in for dalls

If you put in for the spatsizi and are not a winner then you can still put in for the rest of the sheep draws that year.

Yes and no.
You can put in for spatzizi (6-20A)now as long as its in by Feb 5th 2010. The other regions by june 12th 2010.:-D

Yes you did. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Maybe all of region 6 LEH should be held in Feb?.
After all, the seasons start Aug 1. And being drawn in June does'nt give you alot of time...

Well fella's it was not an attempt at a joke, the question was simple enough. Where to get started.....? I do not need to know where anyones secret spot is. I am quite capable of glassing and finding sheep, but am interested in finding out information about access points. Thanks for the comments anyhow. I do however like to do my planning before getting the tag in hand. That way there is no last minute scrambling.

Thanks again.

If you come up with a lake as your destination you may have trouble finding someone to take you there:?.

If you want to hike in from the Klappan you may have trouble getting there....depending on what happens with the FN blockades in 2010:?.

Getting the draw is the easy part:?.

Not many lakes available for the spatz draw. Start with cartmel and next is coldfish.

If its the bug lake I know it is only about a mile from coldfish on the parks trail and has a guide outfitter lodge on it. Makes coldfish look pretty good, especially with the cabins available. If its a different bugg lake send me the coordinates....pm me if you want and I will look at the lake and the possibility of landing there. As I fly all around the area, I am certainly not looking for any "honey holes" as I have my fare share of them.

No it's the same one.

Lots of guys talk about that boulder field to the east of cartmel too cause it's on the map as well. Wouldn't catch me in there on floats.

If I ever got the draw in there I'd go in off eaglesnest and hunt from there.

Cartmel is a regular destination for us. Local knowledge is what keeps us working safely. I agree that a hike in is good as long as the native blockades don't get you. Early season should not be a problem in that respect as it seems the issue is moose... near the rut......shouldn't be a problem for early season sheep

You better hope. I would definately suggest a fly in as you will most likely be blockaded out.:(

Fly into Bug Lake as the outfitter has a trail right from there into the sheep range south. Saves yourself a mile of walking from Coldfish :)
