Hello all
anyone started shwackin coyotes yet? ive been out a couple times, but still empty handed. Ive tried everything electronic calls, mouth calls, diaphrams, a mounted coyote for a decoy....and still no luck. ive kille more coyotes driving than calling. Any one have any insight on good coyote tecniques? Also im having some issues with my 22-250, i shoot 55 gr hornady v-maxs proppeled by 41.2 grns of hodgdons h414 and im scattering. like 4 inches at 100 yds. I know its not me because i can piggy back holes with my tikka 270 at that distance. I chronoed it today at 3765 fps. Is it maybe too fast? Anyone have any favorite loads they would like to share that use the 55 gr v-max???? Thanks again

I use a load I got from StoneChaser that has never failed me...50gr VMAX with 35gr of RE15.....close to one hole everytime from my .22-250!!

I bought a bought a bunch of WC 735 that I use for economic reasons but it isn't close to the above load.

Here's how I do back east in Nova Scotia. Go out after a fresh snowfall and drive the logging roads. Find a fresh track that goes into a draw or into a cut or open area , then you know at least there is one in the area. Call from there. If the track goes down the road, follow it until it veers off and find a place to call.

This way you know there are some close by, otherwise just calling blind is a longshot and there not be any within hearing distance.

Another method is to go out at night and use a howler and when you get some responses and then go to that general area the next day.

The number one rule is that 90% of the time the yote will come in from the downwind direction, so you must be able have an opening on downwind of you. If the wind is stiff and steady you should have at least 100yds or more.

Made it out on Monday. I had to go pickup my treestand so I thought I would try for some yotes.

Got two packs howling back at me but they would not budge and they were in some nasty canyon areas which I was not going to hike down into....at least for some mangy yotes:wink:.

Hunting will get better in a few weeks.

I finally found some 100gn bullets for my .270 that I bought yrs ago for yote hunting but somehow misplaced them:?.
They're 100 Speer spitzers "hot-cor". Don't know anything about them but I can't imagine them leaving worse holes than 150 partitions or 140gn TSX:wink:

What's a guy do with the yotes once you've got him down? Cause I hear a pack of them close to home a little while back.
