Nice bear....tough to tell from the pics. He does have a bit of a dished face from what I can see.....but his body shape suggests brown phase black....

looks like a real nice colored blackbear to me. but would need a better look, and he'd have to be a little farther from the road before I shoot.

His rump is taller then his shoulders, or no shoulder hump. Brown phased Black bear.

Boy that makes a person look for sure, the color scheme, no big shoulders in front hump so yah Blackie with amazing color.

Not a Griz and not no regular bear either! That there is the A&W bear crawling out of the ditch he passed out in with no clothes or toque on after drinking too much bartender's root beer the night before!

Color phase black bear!,I don't shoot many bears but if i see a nice color phase bear like that over 6' I'll smoke em.

It’s a mature black bear in a cinnamon / red colour phase, Grizzly's certainly range in colour!! But rarely will you see a mature grizzly be a cinnamon to reddish colour like that! Look at some bear books and you will see depending on where you are located that grizzlies can be Black, Silver, Blond, Brown, and Dark Brown. I’m yet to see a real griz or picture of one in that reddish phase. The pic is bad but the head doesn’t looked dished to me and the ears are very pronounced.
