My 14 year old daughter connected on this blacktail on the island in late November.
Unfortunately, I was not along to enjoy her reaction.
Last year she participated in the Chilliwack Fish and Game's "Outdoor skills Camp" for those 13 to 16 years old. This allowed her to get her hunter number. I took her up to Princeton for the Youth season last fall, but even though she spotted 2 different bucks, we failed in having her get a shot at either one. This year my brother and I took my 12 year old son Eric to Princeton and came home empty handed. It was Kim's turn to go visit my brother on the island as Eric had gone last year. He was unsuccessful as the weather was sunny and relatively warm and the deer were not moving. This year My wife and Kim arrived in Victoria on Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning my brother and Kim were up and off up island.
a little after 9 am they arrived at the area they wanted to hunt. It was a lovely day for hunting on the island, rainy and wet. A short while into there hike they spotted a doe and then another doe. A fawn then came within 20 yards for a few minutes. Shortly thereafter they changed directions and soon after my brother spotted another deer. Kim it has antlers. She finally saw it and used my brother's arm holding on to a tree as a rest. The deer was facing them on a slight angle and one shot from her mother's Model 7 in .243 did the job. The deer went about 30 yards and was done. This was about noon. They had the deer back at he truck by 4 and were back in Victoria in early evening. My daughter phoned me when they got back and when I asked how big, My son started complaining, knowing his sister had got a deer first.
Kim is very proud of her first deer and so am I.

Congrats on your first buck. As for your brother, tell him not to worry and that its not always about the kill, but quality family time.

Congratulations to Kim. Nice to see a young lady spending time with her Dad. Also good to see she is a proud 4-H member. Both activities will serve her well later in life. Keep up the good work & Merry Christmas!
