Well this year has been incredible for me this year when it has come to wolves. I've seen more wolves this year alone than all of my previous hunting years combined. Previous to this year I had only one good chance at a wolf which I capitalized on in 2005. I was able to convince a pack that i was another pack in their territory. He now adornes my couch downstairs:-D
My sightings started this spring with a solid black that was intently curious of me. So curious that he not only watched me work on a well for more than 20 mins but also followed me to another over 3 klms away.Oh how I could have shot him several times:wink: The sightings kept coming however with a group of 5 next. the first was your classic timber grey and white 3 blacks and a really cool black on top with silver/white making up the bottom, perfectly split down the middle as if someone had painted him that way. The next sighting was well, lets just say had me running for my gun as again working on a well ( all my wells are remote and require access via quad or helicopter) when I had 3 moose bust through the black spruce onto the lease passing me by at 45'. I thought for sure one of the local grizzlies was going to be hot on their trail only to see this totally silver grizzly color of a wolf come trotting up the road. Lucky for him the season was still closed as he moved in and out of the light he almost looked pale blue sometimes was very cool. Anyways the sighting became more and more with fall approaching and with their coats starting to fill out I knew it was only a matter of time.
To date I have shot 3 this fall, 2 I recovered. One a black and silver, He was by himself cruising along the road. I had just finished hunting a stand of timber called it quits removed my winter camo and started to drive away in old red when I seen him, why he gave me time to get out i will never know but i bet he regrets it now:tongue:.
The second a grey and white a perfect classic timber co****tion which was going to accompany my 2005 black, he was with 6 other blacks I hit him on my second shot not only hearing the thwack but also seeing him get knocked over. Unfortunately upon getting to the spot i found only a few drops of blood and stomach fluids. After 2 searches I called it quits. The third wolf was a total surprise, I was set up in between to coulies in thick poplar and sparse regen spruce rattling for a big whitie I had managed to call in a week before but had no shot when 3 wolves caught me off guard I thought I had a good buck coming in. Long of the short they didn't know I was their and I took out the lead a white mixed with some tan along his back and a light grey under coat. These guys had just killed a deer young doe and consumed 3/4 of her and left it to come to me:shock:. If I had been ready and looking for them i'm sure I would have taken 2 of them. Anyways here is a couple of pics of the black just waiting for a friend to send me some pics of the white one as all I have is 2 shitty photos of it back in the yard.
Enjoy
