Hey all,

got a line on a Garmin Etrex Legend (blue), guy wants 75 for it, however, it only has an 8mb internal memory cache. Is this sufficient to put an entire region of topography maps on? Or should I hold out for one with a sim card.

they can hold decent amount, i cant remember how much . you get what you pay for though. I have the blue and we use it and the yellow cheapo one at work. they both have pretty high mortality rates. with the blue the toggle switch is usually the first to go, and theres the lines that run across the screen that indicate coming death.

My first GPS was a Legend. It worked fine as a basic unit but it's limitations inspired me to buy a Garmin GPSMap 60Cx in which I now have a 2gb card.

The limitations of the Legend included low memory(8mb), non-color screen and questionable sensitivity under a thick canopy.

With Garmin's Topo Canada V4, the mapsheet that covers the area near Chetwynd where I hunt is 7.43mb. But I need a second sheet to completely cover the my area and that's another 5.22mb. So 'm out of luck for complete coverage.

Another extreme example is the mapsheet for the lower mainland. It's 19.2mb.:(

I just got the blue legend a little while ago also. It seems to work fine as a basics GPS. I got mine from The Source" They had them on sale for $60 new.

I had a legend, fine for a basic gps, I had to load small areas into it at a time and the antenna sucks in the trees, you'll lose signal.

Look for one with the sim card and stronger antenna.

I bought one from the source as well.I think it was $58.I figured at that price it would make a good back up.My lowrance would still be my main GPS

There's a 60csx for sale on CGN for $200 screaming deal, but I've already got one.
