Your poll doesn't include the best from BC and that's Bison.

I've eaten lots of bison, but mostly it's been from SSSSters dad's ranch.

I've never had a bison tag,:???:

Of your choices, I'd take a youngish moose for best overall eating.

Blacktail, and looking forward to some Roosevelt meat.
Something about that rainforest purple fine grained chop from heaven.
I prefer it to all others now.

Couldnt agree more, young moose is the best by far! Way better than bison or elk!

I'm not seeing Bear either? Nobody ever said I was normal!!! But to pick from the list, Moose, and young if possible.

Fillet of Fallow Deer loin from Sidney Island. It's like the best veal that you ever had only sooo much better. My brother once came out east for a visit and he wanted to have the deer that his son raved about. I served this to him and he was, as the British say, gob struck.

Yup...The island meat is pretty good.

The best tasting meat by far is Mountain Sheep, but since you do not have it as a choice, then a young bull moose is a close second.

My rosie from a couple years ago was pretty good as well, much better than any MT Rocky elk I have had.

Worst was my biggest mulie, could smell him from 50' away and still smell him when ever we opened up a package of meat. The only animal I fed to the bears.......the wife simple refused to cook or eat it, and I was right behind her.

Cheers

I want opinions on sheep and goat, as I have the distinct misfortune of never tasting either.

Tell me your tales of glee or woe!

I would have posted bear, bison, sheep and goat (and squirrel for Big7) but the polling feature only lets you do 4 choices.

Good to hear all your opinions. Looks like the young bull moose have it by a nose on the elk.

I'll be putting alot of energy into a spike fork next year.

Keep'em coming!!

Right now I have a huge freezer full of elk, moose, whitetail, mulie, goat, black bear and fallow deer. And the fallow deer is consistently the best with elk a close second.

Moose meat is by far my favorite. Elk is a close second.

I once had a lama roast and that was pretty good:tongue:

For the future you can do more than 4 poll choices :) It's an option you can choose when you are making it.

although the choice were limited i voted moose from your selection ,however had there have been more choices i would put mtn goat 1st,for flavor and tenderness,i have never had a bad tasting cut of moose be he old or young.eliminating all the animals fat in ungulates like deer, moose, elk and ensuring there is no bone either will take out any wild taste in the meat.so it all is very yummy.

Looks like the ELK and Moose are tied.
I've read posts on here where some guys consider 6 point Elk as un-eatable. I was thinking Moose would have got more votes than Elk.

Young moose by a mile. Then whitey, muley, and elk in that order. I've never tasted a young elk though so it could move up a spot or two, if I should have the opportunity to sample it.

I want to revive this thread again.
Elk have it, but I think it should be Moose.

My whitetail this year is absolutely fine. The least gamey deer I have
ever eaten. I eat my whitetail deersteaks rare.
Even the wife eats them medium rare and normaly they would have to be cooked through.

(Kind of like Bush vs. Gore 2000. Keep counting till you win)

pescado

Elk, Whitetail, Moose than Blacktails for me. The whitey's suprise me.

12-21-2009, 03:00 PM
I'm not sure that there are enough options on there, for instance september blacktail would be much better than november whitetail. When I was a kid my favorite was mountain goat, you need to add, bear, MT goat, sheep, blacktail, early season that is, white tails and mulies off grain feilds are a different world from mountain deer again. etc lol we could have a 1 page survey for this one.

Elk is my favorite followed by quail. Unfortunately for me I have never shot an elk so I am stuck begging from buddies who get lucky enough to draw a Ne tag (really tough). Cornfed whitetail ranks up there the Mulies I have eaten taste like sage.

Elk is nice, but an immature moose gets my nod for best tasting on your list.
