I've got some video from this past fall that I would like to edit together into a video (music etc.). I use a sony handycam with built in memory. I have saved the clips to the computer and will soon get an external hard drive. I have been told Windows DVD Maker. What would you recommend, pro's/con's?
Thanks

It depends on how technical you are wanting to get.

If you are wanting to do basic editing, add music, titles, etc then Windows movie maker is probably your best bet. There is tons of information on the internet on how to use it and it is relatively easy to use.

I have also heard Sony Vegas is a great editing software, but from what I have seen it may be a bit more complicated. I can't say cause I've never used it.

Currently I use iMovie on my mac and its pretty close to movie maker.

I can say it does take some practice to accomplish what you want though.

There are some cool programs out there to add effects to your videos such as Photoshop After Effects, but that gets to be pretty technical, and any photoshop software is very expensive.

Does your computer come with any editing software? If its relatively new it should have something.

Don't buy Pinacle Studio. Garbage, poor support.
If you did not shoot in Hi-Def then Win Movie Maker is a great editor.

Ive made a couple of snowboarding movies, and used roxio media suite works great, has all the effects, put your music with the background sound from your video (all the trimmings great program) all for under 100$ at staples.

I used Pinnacle for years until it went out of date. Updates only work for so long, and then they actually want you to buy a NEW one.... the NERVE!
I really liked it when it was current, though, and I'd recommend it.

I'm, using Windows Movie Maker right now, as we speak, and it's importing in HD from my HD camera...needs 11GB per hour of tape though.

I tried using iMovie, but it's very unreliable, and using a Mac sucks. I've tried to like my MacBook, I truly have, but the programs keep freezing up, it's controls are too vague, and updates don't work there either. Mac gives you a crappy little taste of all the good programs so you'll buy the more expensive updates. Not a fan. After it froze up 15 times today, and I wasted 3 hrs on it, I moved it al to my PC, and Windows MM said "No problem!"
Easy to edit after the fact as well, change sound volume, add tunes, etc.
It's free, it does HD, and it actually works.
More than I can say for that stinkin' Mac POS.

Haha wow Elkmaster, you must have some shitty luck or you've been watching too much virus infested porn. I have had my mac for 2 years now and it acts the exact way it did when I bought it, flawlessly, I love it and will never look at another PC again.

It is a pain in the ass to get used too coming from a PC, but once you get it, it truly is amazing.

I also have no virus protection crap to deal with or buy!!!!

I've had a Mac for about 3 years, and PC's forever, and I've never had a virus or any of that crap. I've also had nowhere NEAR the crashes and freeze-ups with any PC that I get with this CrapBook.
I've also never had a less reliable, and more difficult to use computer than this ****ing boat anchor MacIntosh makes.
Oh, and I build my own PCs from a bare case up, in case anyone is wondering if I'm compu-challenged, lol

Maybe my Apple is a Lemon?

The only way to speed that piece of crap up would be to throw it off a ****ing cliff.

Anyway, I digress......lol

What was the topic?
