Just curious, how many of you on this site fly tye? I used to host fly swaps online before, was thinking that if we could get enough on here Id host a swap!

how does it work?

ElkMasterC

I'm a beginner as well. My flies are used to scare young fish on a Trout Unlimited sponsored fish equivalent of the old "Scared Straight" program.

I took a course at Sea Run last year, and never looked back.

I bet the Swede and PGK might know a little as well......

The only fly I can tie is a simple chironomid, but thats all I need to slay the monsters of Dragon lake! I'd like to learn one day how to do it properly though.

It works like this,

I try and get 10 people to participate in the swap, so if there is 10 people, then you tie 10 flys. There will be a deadline as to when you have to have your flys sent out. Everyone sends there flys to me, I divide them, (you send 10 flys then you get 10 back in return, just different flys). The host of the swap (which would be me) picks a style of fly to be tied, so that means you would have to tie 10 chironomids if it was a chironomid swap, or 10 dry flys if its a dry fly swap. Its pretty simple, I have seen some pretty neat creations, no worries if your new to tying to a expert, its a neat way to see some people work and creations.

WaterSkeeter

KyleB,

your fishing on of my favorite spots on Dragon lake, I used to fish Dragon at least 5 times a week, when the chironomids are not hatching use a size 12 purple micro leach, they are friggin deadly.

Oh and for the swap, Once I get all the flys I will post pictures of them under the swap thread.

I could be up for a swap
The swaps I've done in the past, a pattern is always chosen (eg, wooly bugger, chromie, adams, etc...) "Dry fly" is very generic, not that that's a bad thing.
May I suggest you at least shorten the requirements to "dry fly that is fished for trout"?

well thats what I normally do is pick a species to tye for, so yeah, dry fly for rainbow trout. I dont make everyone tie the same pattern as I like to see more then 1 type of pattern and its more fun. This thread was made just to see who wasi tnerested, all the finer details would be in the actual swap thread when made

I'd be good to go for a fly swap as well, tying kit isn't burried too deep. just about time too dig it out and fill the boxes so they can age before ice off anyways

Do you have one left???

I've taken that one step further...one rifle and two flyrods....they do get broken from time to time.

lol. I will say though that its a nice lake around here on the north island. Nimpkish drainage.

At this lake I kid you not, I had the biggest frigg'n rainbow I've ever seen personally; hooked the week before for 3 or 4 minutes maybe. Half again as big as the cutty. He finally got serious and kicked my sorry ass! :icon_frow A lot of folks will know from old threads down below I just got in to fly fishing this fall. I'm screwed now, I've got the bug bad. ..
