Got this e-mail from the brother- law, it looks a little like it been photo shopped, but one can never really know, has anybody else seen or heard of this wolf?

This Wolf was shot recently near Drayton Valley, Alberta, about 3 hours North of Calgary.

The wolf weighs over 230lbs, smashing the previous record of 175lbs.

Apparently a bear hunter witnessed this wolf chase off a big black
bear at his baiting station.

The story of this wolf is in the Fall Edition on "Big Buck Magazine". Jim Johnston killed this wolf in Glenevis, Alberta in early May. The wolf weighed approx. 197 pounds, and is still waiting to be scored. The man in the picture is Jeff Grimolfson, who owns White Claw Outfitters in Alberta.

The pic might be real but as for it weighing over 230lbs that I do not believe. I find it hard to believe that someone can pick up over 230lbs of dead weight and hold it up like that without any help. Just my opinion

i think you could hold up 230lbs np...with a bear hug like that leaning back i think its very possible...its easy w/ 150lbs+ deer...it would just suck and not be very fun hahaha and his back might hurt, but thats a beast and would be cool to see but i personally wouldnt shoot a wolf

Its the pending world record, they are using it for an advertising for bait in a bucket called Monster Bear Bait. After tis was shot they are trying to make a product for baiting wolves.. Can't wait!!

I would really like to see the verification on the weight of this wolf .A big adult wolf weighs around 110 lbs ,an absolute monster is 150 lbs.I have weighed lots of them (taxidermist /trapper) and i just find this a little hard to believe.....:-?

Why wouldnt you shoot a wolf? I have personally seen one alpha male that the game branch shot around Fort Fraser that weighed just over 200lbs. I have also witnessed wolves killing in a frenzy not just for what they need to eat. If the season is open I will kill the wolf!

I shot a very large wolf, it was the 12th largest wolf in the BC record book, and I estimate it weighed about 150-170lbs or so. It was a serious pain in the ass to lift up whole. Unlike a moose or an elk 1/4 the dead weight just flops around. Eric Gander said it was absolutely huge and he was the one who insidted it be scored. So I tend to take stories of +200lb wolves with a grain of salt.

Sounds like one of those "monster" hybrids escaped from Vancouver Island.

A deer weighing 150lbs i could see being lifted, but add another 80 pounds not to sure on that, that is alot of dead weight.

lol Its heavy for guys who can't lift that much only. It's basically a deadlift into a powerclean to a Hussaffel Stone hold for a pic. The guy looks pretty sturdy and has an experienced grip. No problemo.:)

Wolf was shot west of Drayton Valley. Johnston is from Glenevis. 197 lbs is correct.

Seriously... it looks photoshopped, big time! Any first hand accounts? Won't believe it until B&C says it's real.

I just talked to a guy today who said he shot a similar wolf somewhere in alberta. My guess is he shot it late october or sometime in november. If I understood him correctly, they have video they are editing for TV. He said the hide could wrap around him completely. Sounds like another monster for sure... stay tuned!!

why kill something so magnificant. a wolf like that should be something of lore and continue on wouldnt you think. im a hunter and i love the sport of hunting(not wolves) but shouldnt we all have a common sense that that just isnt right. i know you wont all agree and probly ream me out for it but just my 2 cents. and it isnt like he was going to eat it.
