Holy Crap, I wonder what the other bull looked like. I have only seen elk fighting a few times and it is brutal.

Cool pics one shot!! A guy last year took a bull elk up north, it was a 5x5, and 4 of the 10 points were broken off from fighting I presume! Pretty cool animals, a fight to the death!! Mother nature's way of thinning the herd! Moosin

I dunno. Looks like two entries and two exits. looks more like drag marks than a fight zone to me. Could be wrong but????

This is what I found out....

This is a bull that was found on the Uinta County Youth Camps property, originally called in as a poaching. I have never seen such carnage, the dead bull had blood and chunks of fat and hide on his antlers leaving me to believe the victor may have hobbled off and died elsewhere. The ground was tore up in every direction for a 50 yards and it looked as if the dead bull had possibly fallen after a couple of small trees gave way. The bull had several gore wounds to his chest, abdomen, neck and head. He also had his entire brisket ripped open. The plan is to donate the antlers to the Youth Camp who has acquired a free European mount from a local taxidermist to hang in the camps main lodge. The mount will be accompanied by less bloody photos of scene and a write up about natural breeding selection and how this can occur for the kids to read. Photos attached...

Are wrong!!! Ever seen an area where elk have been sparring? Check out Youtube! Devastating wounds are inflicted, sometimes to all animals. If it was a hot spot for rutting, which it looks like it is, they will fight to the death. I have seen moose fight, and there was blood and hide everywhere!! Elk with those long sharp tines could and do easily kill other elk! Not a case of poaching here! Just plain ole horny rutting elk!

I was looking closer at the pics agian and the only thing that strikes me as a little odd is there's not alot of blood around the bull or area that I can see for the size of the wounds.

But hey just, an opinion.

see what can happen when the boys fight over the girls a good lesson for the kids at camp to learn. not worth fighting over a girl it could cost you your life. :icon_frow

Great post. It's sad to see a great breeding bull go out like that but it is reality in the wild. That would of been a good video. Elk are amazing animals. Maybe this is why nobody is seeing any 6pts in reg. 4.:mrgreen:
