We werent sure what to expect of this hunt, so we decided to be prepared for what ever conditions we might encounter. I had reserved a cabin at the "Tompters Ranch" which turned out excellent for us. It was just an empty cabin with a fireplace but we had all the equipment to set it up nice and cozy.

We showed up on monday the 16th and were very excited to get set up and get out on the trail. We payed the tresspass fee to cross the indian land which we felt was a good choice. The only thing i was mad at was come weekend they locked the gate, and headed for town. Luckily when i needed through there was the other guy that lived in there passing through as well and he let me through.
Anyways, we hunted for a total of 4 and 1/2 days. Seeing aproximately 250 -275 buffalo. We were talking o some people that had not been seeing any at all. They asked why i hadnt shot one yet. I wanted to hold out for a decent bull. My buddy and I pointed 4 different hunters in directions over the few days and all had connected on a buffalo.
On day two i had spotted a herd off in a meadow about a kilometer away. Me and my budd (Chad) parked the sled on the side of the trail and put on a stalk. It took us 45mins to get to within a 100 yrds. I had the bull picked out with the buffalo not even knowing of our presence. We were just getting lined up on him and were about to pull the trigger when the whole herd started to stampede away. I thought what the F#*k. I looked behind me because i heard some noise. Here comes some guy running through the brush trying to catch up too us so he can get in on the buffalo too. Needless to say they all got away and well, I had a few choice words for the rookie hunter. We ended up staying with this group for a cupple days. We had decided there were enough buffalo that we didnt have to race each other there every morning.
The next day we got up bright and early. Got to where the bffalo were and they had allready had us pegged. with a 300 yard distance between us and them. So down the trail we go. Another stalk and another spooked herd. Down the trail some more. oh oh anther herd. This one had no bulls and the guy that we were hunting with wanted any buffalo. He asked me to back him up and we both got set up approx 140 yrds. He shot frst hitting the cow in the shoulder. I then followed up with one in the boiler room. It was clear this cow wasnt going far. ^ steps later she was down for the count. We speant the rest of the day skinning quartering and packing her back to camp with high hopes of me getting my bull the next day.
Again woke up well before sun up and travelled up the trail. We ran into our neighbor at the tompters heading up for a buffalo as well and we decided to hunt together.
The first meadow that we came to had a herd of about 10 or 15 grazing to the timber. We set up our stalk down the creek and when we popped up where we thought we could get a shot they had all vanished except for one.:mrgreen::mrgreen:
This was my bull. He was feeding away. 200 yards out. I started my stalk while chad and the two others stood and watched. They said it unfolded picture perfect. I closed the gap to 100yards . The bull was busy feeding away. I steadied my breathing, got the shooting stick set up, chambeed a 210 grain bbarnes triple shock into chads .338 that he leant me. BOOM.
The bull spun around and started looking for the herd. He may have ran 6 yards and piled up. At one point i put my cross hairs on him and pulled the trigger again but i didnt bring the bolt back far enough to grab the bullet and well all i heard was click. Luckily enough he dropped.
The rest of the day was gut, skin, quarter, and pack. We had made several friends on the trail and we had pleanty of people to come and lend a hand bringing the fine representation home. We figured , and chad works at a slaughter house, that this bull weighs 1800 pounds on the hoof.
All in all we had an amzing trip. Met some good people. saw some beautiful country. and made some memories that will last a life time.
i hope you enjoyed the storey.
cheers
