Took the morning to go for a hunt with my wife. We spotted a small 4 point across the ravine a 250 yards. We past on him as it was still early ten minutes later we spotted a hybred buck chasing does at 200 yards. We stuggled threw 3 feet of snow up hill for a couple hundred yards before cutting some distance and getting a clear shot. This buck was her biggest ever we where pretty pumped. Whitetail type antlers and a black tail. I see a few hybreds around but this was by far the biggest.

I gotta plan a mainland deer hunt for next year... that would be about twice the meat as a good size island deer. And the rack!!! Nice. BTW - Your wife is a keeper too, any woman that will get out and go hunting is a trophy!!!

Is the black tail indicative of a hybrid, does it look like a mulie tail, would be really nice if you posted a picture of his tail just for information purposes.

I agree, dont base the hybrid theory on the antlers!!!
Very nice buck though!

Soory no picture of the tail, as its in the dump. I wish I would have snapped a photo as I have had a few people ask. The tail was the shape of a whitetail but almost competely black. We have very few whitetail here but every year you see mule deer does with whitetail fawns, Most of these fawns stott like a muledeer. This buck stotted as well. This Is the first mature buck I have seen which would classify as a hybred.

Very nice buck indeed and a big thumbs up to you both.

I'd never heard of such hybrids, as they aren't common in the Kootenays, as far as I know. Then I met a couple that lived at Twist Lake, just south of Tatla Lake and we had a long talk & show and tell. I have since been educated. Nice country there too.

Nice buck and the great smile tell the tale. Congrats. I would like to know how you tag that guy as well. Did he have the white bum patch like a muley? Sure looks like a WT from the neck up though.

Looks like a mulie to me. Short brows, weak G2, big ears.

weird looking deer!

great photo and congrats!

Either a muley was out of his league with a hot whitetail....or a desperate whitetail went slumming with a muley? Chicken or the egg really.

Congratulations to your wife. Given your proximety to the Coastal Mtns is there any possibility that this buck was a Blacktail? I have often wondered if any Blacktails show up in that area.

Looks more whitetail than mulie. Main beams, color and bright white belly. Shot a hybread w/t doe this year during archery season. They are becoming a common sighting between Rock Creek through to Cranbrook.

Nice buck. Whitetail style rack and it's definitely got a mulie looking face. It would have been nice to see a picture of the tale but I'm a believer nonetheless.
