So I'm going to buy myself a trail cam for xmas,
I have looked at them on cabelas, but the reviews are so hard to judge
because they are so inconsistant

I think I want one with the infrared flash, seems to be better for not spooking deer.

I pretty much just want one that will hold up to the weather, wet and cold you know

I keep reading about the guys who's cams only last a year

What sort of experience does everyone have with the cams?

I've got the Bushnell one from Wal-Mart and I wouldn't want a high dollar one incase it gets stolen.

I have one of the new-ish Bushnell Trophy cams with the built in viewer (model 119415). Initially I could not get it to work at all and I was very frustrated with it, but then I discovered that some SD cards don't work in it. Now, with some better quality SD cards it works very well.

I bought one locally, but it was kind of expensive ($259 + taxes). I then found them on eBay for much less - even with exchange, shipping, taxes etc.

Criticisms would be:

- they don't tell you about the SD card issue in the manual and it took me quite a while to discover the issue on the internet
- the built-in colour viewer has pretty poor colour rendering and resolution (but on the computer the images are good)
- the "one year battery life" is mis-advertising
- the strap should have a buckle on it for quicker set-up/removal

Good points:

- fast trigger time
- weather resistant housing
- AA batteries - where 4 or 8 batteries can be used (can remove them in sets of 4 to preserve settings)
- images have been showing me animals I did not know were using the area

I have 3 Moultrie trail cams and I am happy with the pic they take Mod#MPH-DGW-40.
You can get them from wholesale sports or cabalas I payed $130.00 for my last one that I got in june of this year it came with a 1GB memory card http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif.

If I do get a trail stolen it won't cost me an arm and a leg ,some trail cams you can pay up to $300.00 or more.
