BCbillies gets credit for the title of this thread

This fall was a bit difficult to find a goat but on November 7 it all came together for me. A friend and myself went up a mountain that I had never hunted before. We saw several goats up in a basin just below the snow line so with the rut getting close and the boys definitely getting interested in the girls all ready up we went. It took us 2 1/2 hours to get up close, as we went from the timber into the slide we started to see fresh beds and tracks including some huge ones so we knew somewhere was a big bodied billy. As we walked up the slide I noticed an odd white shape in the slide alder it wasn't moving but I thought it has to be a goat. As I went farther all of a sudden there were nannies and kids running so I ran forward to see where they went and saw another goat looking at me at around 50 yards it was a mature billy I double checked to be sure it wasn't one of the nannies it was definitely a billy so I shot him (with my 264 Win Mag and a 130 gr Swift Scirocco for those who care about such things) and he went down but he got up and was trying to walk away on me so I hit him in the neck to drop him, he flipped a couple of times and was awfully close to tumbling into the canyon so I held him by the horns until he stopped kicking (which is not really recommended but I wanted to keep him out of the canyon).
On the way down I fell with 140 pounds in my pack and got at least 3 rotations and somehow didn't get hurt. My partner took some of what I had and I had 120-125 lbs after that. On the way down I was very grateful to God for his guidance and safety. The goat could have gone into the canyon and we would have had a much harder time and would have had to spend the night, I only got cuts, scrapes and bruises in my fall, no broken bones and he led us perfectly through the cliffs in the timber before dark.

BCbillies scored him at exactly 53 after deductions, he was a monster in body size, was 12 years old, and his horns are 10 3/8 inches long with 5 3/4 inch bases. I may never get a bigger one but I will sure keep trying :-D, BCbillies needs the next big boy.

Absolutely AWESOME billy!! You're right, it will be tough to top that one.
Definitely worthy of the full body mount.

Last year's goat pictures had the best back-drop ever. Everything about it suggested wild and rugged.
This one is all about the Billy!!

Congatulations.

Lookin Like Its Going To Ba A Full Mount , Nice Job

Although it makes for a heavy pack it's best to keep all the options open until one has a chance to rest up and think more clearly! I look forward in taking photos of this goat beside the two other hawgs (ThinAir's and Dustin's) . . . all of similar class.

An old goat but with all teeth in tact and plenty of fat under the hide it looks like he may have survived a couple more years. A great trophy in all regards and well earned after gerrygoats many years of chasing these creatures in the high country and helping many friends and foreigners in their successful persuits. Wish I could have been there but I can't make them all!

Gerry I was wondering how long you were going to hold out on us! Congrats on another great goat. That is going to make one awsome mount. I'm surprised you didn't use the new 375!

SKYLINE - that 264 has been a real show stopper for him! He's leaving it up to me to take down the first billy with the 375. :-D Perhaps this coming weekend . . . not necessarily looking for the monster but would like to give the 260 Accubonds a test . . . and maybe we can bring home the stinkiest billy this fall! To date I am rather fond of maneuvering the 20" barrel though the slide alder both both on and off the pack. I've got a real itch happening!

gerrygoat - I really like the photo of the lifesize cape with the backstraps chilling on the alders! The photos don't really do justice to the size of this billy but he is big bodied.

Another thing that is lost in the pictures is the size of that goats head. When Gerrygoat stopped by my house with this hawg in the back of his truck I almost fell over! The horns are great on this goat (obviously a goat scoring 53 is amazing), the hide is as good as it gets, and the face on it was like a horse!! It reminded me of the goat that BCBillies passed on last year, but with much better horns!
Can't wait to see how this billy looks on the wall. This is definitely a goat worthy of a wall mount!
Well done Gerry on a booner goat!
TSW
PS Is it just me or is it the one year I have house reno's to do during goat hunting season and everyone shoots a booner goat? Just the way it goes I guess!

If you've ever watched "Numbers" . . . there appears to be a pattern forming over the last 5 hunting seasons on who is never present when the big ones are dropped!

You can do reno's when you're 60 . . . don't bank on goat hunting then! Unfortunately not everyone has shot a booner yet . . . but the LEH's are good till Feb 28th so keep the faith. :)

Very nice Billy! I have nevr been goat hunting and have to ask how the meat is?
On an older goat the meat is tough but has very good flavor we ground up this guy into hamburger.

By the way after giving it some thought, I'm just going to get a head mount done.

thats definatly a cranker goat.nice job. their are not to many guys that will carry an extra 20 pounds off a mountain and then not use it.but i guess you have your reasons.are you going to trade your life size cape for a shoulder cape and credit on the mount.if you are not particular about using your cape most taxidermist will work a deal with you.
once again heck of a goat, congrats
