well after 20 solid days of hunting i finally got my first buck, in the last five minutes of light on my last day of hunting. It was a real suprise because as dusk started to set in a herd of 15 or so cow elk came out of the bush into the cutblock and were feeding about 250 yards out from me. They then sensed my father who was on the opposite end of the cut from me( 15 yards from the elk herd) and made a dash for cover. After all that ruckus and the cow talk and foot stomping that followed i had basically given up and started to make my way towards my fathers location when suddenly i saw a white flash and noticed a nice size buck that the elk had spooked out of cover. He noticed me and veered through some willows and i pursued him and caught up with him as he was climbing out of a ravine. He reached the top and at around 75 yards turned broadside and I tagged him with a double lung shot and my first buck was down. And now im hooked!!! unfortunately its not allowing me to upload my pic so i can prove nothing unless someone is more computer savvy then I and can offer advice. cheers

Here you go, well done!!

I have hunted for 49 years. Many hunting trips have gone that way, not seeing anything at all for days, and then poking over one last ridge, seeing deer everywhere, that's hunting, and why you should try to remain optimistic right up until you are back on the hwy. and coming into town.

Great first deer. I think you were hooked before this if you had been hunting for 20 solid days and still going hard. Good for you.

Awsome deer and good story! I have yet to bag a white tail. Looks like you earned it. What are you going to do with the horns? European mount or something? What is it anyways, a 5x5? Can't see all the tips from that angle.

well from my understanding, on a whitetail you include the brow tine if its longer then one inch so that makes him a 6x4. Only pity is it may be a long time before i get a shot at another like him......but i'll keep trying:wink:

Great buck! and... sweet rifle, I love wood and blue, they just seem more like real guns to me. What calibre is it?

Cheers, Bob

Well done, good pic. I'll bet that if the elk weren't spooked, that buck would have held tight and you wouldn't have got the chance for a shot.

Bloody whitetail bucks! I just hate them and I love them.
