Saturday dawns promising for a bright, sunny day. Unfortunately for me I took gravol at night for nausea, why? Dunno. Didn't really want to go, had to be persuaded! Made and packed lunch, gun, ammo and lisence. Truck ride way up Deer Park, deer ridge road. No animals whatsoever, but way up up fresh track in the snow... no deer, dear. Decided to leave Deer (No Deer) ridge road, after a nice lunch break. Up into a different area :) ... 1, 2, 3 kl.... OH WAIT!! Deer, deer, deer, up there on the hill. Stop. Focus. Partner gets out and the deer into sights, whispers... AND it's a BUCK! Me, plugging my ears, waiting, waiting for the POW! .... sigh.... "I can't take him... he's perfect for your first."
OUT of the truck, lock in magazine, Click! Click! LOADED. Stalking, up the bank, sliding, stumbling, laughing at myself surprised Dear Buck is still standing, staring... probably trying to figure out the poor blonde womans problem... lol.
Trying to sight free handed, nope, can't do it this way... off to left-- nice skinny tree to rest against. It's about 20 feet away, and I am thinking "Just get there, if the buck's still around, GREAT!"
Get to tree without trippy trippen, gun to shoulder, eye to scope, white tail buck in crosshair... safety off "CLICK!" (no one showed me how to do silently yet :P ) OH OH! buck decides time to eff off, flags up!
*BANG*
Smoke settles, utter silence. No buck. Me? Huge grin, "this is sooooo exciting!!" Creeping forward and up... and up.... 100 yards... look to your left honey, there he is!
Down. 1 shot, double lung shot high, dropped in his tracks.
God bless you, this day. Thank you for answering my Prayers.
My first Buck.
