So the morning starts its -9c and my e-brake is frozen on. Few minutes of screwing with it and I am away. Told the wife I would shoot the first 4 point I saw as today was my last day to hunt muleys. I had decided the night before to hit the same spot I have taken my last two Mule deer. Pulled off the main onto my spur to see tire tracks in the snow this is good and bad. Its bad because someone had been up there yesterday. Its good because someone has beat in a trail. Well got halfway up where the road gets sketchy and the tracks stop. Have look at the road decide to roll the dice, 3km later I decide to park as the snow is getting deap. Jump out of the truck pull on my new gloves and the palm rips. No big deal go to grab my pack and the canopy lock is frozen shut. Say screw it grab my rifle and start walking. Cut a new set of tracks 500yards from the truck and I start following them up the edge of the cut and after a 1000 vertical feet straight up, they head into the timber. By this point I knew it was a buck as he had stopped to molest a couple of small trees. Decision time do I want to be up in the timber in winter conditions with no pack. Decided to be smart and head accross the top of the cut but I see nothing so I start to head down suddenly I hear a noise my first thoughts are noisy squirrel. So while glassing for my squirrel I notice an alder bush moving 300yards below me and on closer examination I make out 2 no 4 tines moving in the bush. I think to myself mayby you should go down closer and confirm a deer is attached to those tines. Well after a hundred yards of sneaking I confirm it is a 4x5 muley but he has spotted me but I only have the top 8 inches of his back not a very big target for a 200yard standing shot. Than like I have no control of my arms the rifle is at my shoulder I am looking through the scope and by god I am steady. BANG he is down quick reload and walk down hill waiting for him to hop up but he stays down the shot has severed his spine, quick knife to the throat to end his pain. Than the work begins the snow sucked on the way up but man it made things fast on the way down.
So the deer went down 200yards from last years 4x3 and 400yards from two years past. The funny thing is I hardly ever hunt this spot.
Well this is the end of my reg. 4 hunting season one last chance this weekend in region 8.

BTW very nice buck, congrats

Took the pics after I dragged it down to the truck. Camera and tripod was in my pack wich was stuck in the back of the truck. Had to break the lock to get in.:icon_frow But normaly I have a lightweight tripod for my spotting scope works fine for cameras as well.

Congrats Everett. You hit on a very important point when you said..." funny thing is, I hardly ever hunt this spot"... or something like that. When you've found a great spot, you don't have to hunt it often to be successful. Once a season is often enough !
