You have been hunting for a week Buck-less, on your last day - you stumble across this guy standing at 40 yrds - what are you going to do?...........................
Are you going to take the Shot?
Are you going to just sit and watch him - waiting for him to turn, to get the perfect 3D shot?
What are you going to do?

@40 ydr. I 'm gonna drill him rite between those eyeballs, or a little lower on that nice white patch in his neck,no.

With a bow?

Not a good bow shot, he is aware of your presence and ready to jump string if you shoot. The bulk of his vital chest area is covered by his R front leg. I would rather wait than make a mistake and regret wounding him.

Sorry didn't know you were throwing sticks at him, not into 3D.

No worries mate - with my .270 he gets it between the eyes as well - with my bow I have to be patient.

At that distance and that angle, he gets away and I get to watch him do it. :-D

hes totally aware that something aint right where you are .... I would stay put ... in about 5 mins he would saunter off once he figgered out that there is no threat and he would then give a me a perfect 1/4 away or broadside shot .....

X 2 Mike, x 2.

As a side note - I've seen what an arrow will do to 'thin' deer ribs. But. The brisket ribs are spaced too close together (and are too short - therefore stronger) to chance a shot at the top right of his right fore leg. Just where that lighter crease heads over to the right from his shoulder joint (where the femur connects to the shoulder blade).

At 20 yards an arrow will take out one of his vertabrae, just under his chin. Providing he stood there perfectly still and long enough for you to get the shot off. BTW - not a shot I'd take at anytime.

At 40 yrd there is no question. I wait to see if he gives me a better shot. Now at 20 yrds There is plenty of room there to make a fatal shot.

If my rifle was shouldered, I'd wait til he turned. If I happened to be walking around the bush with my rifle up and looking through my open scope and a round chambered-nighty-night. But obviously the latter isn't practical or legal so I'd be standing there staring/hoping he doesn't bolt.

I would bounce an arrow off his left front shoulder blade and scewer his heart like a piece of chicken on a stick. Because I'm that damn good!!

I would let him have it with a burst of bear spray and then finish him off while he was running around bumping into trees etc. LOL

i guess the rifle guys didnt see the other deer standing behind him.
i dont shoot a bow but even if i was that good that other deer is right there. best thing is to wait for broadside clear of the other deer.

well if your fortunat anough to get out of the truck and go to the back of it the doe wouldnt even be in ur sights. and if it is then ur outa luck and takin the shot would be a very bad decision.

At 40 yards I would take a shot 3/4 way down the length of his neck from his nose, only if you were sure you could put it in there.

this is great for an argument, majority of bowhunters that have been at it a while know that there is no ethical shot, younger bowhunters and some with crossbows think differently and you can sure tell which ones those are by the comments.
Being a bowhunter i know that this is a painful experience, and i know this from experience, Sure you can take a shot at his throat but you had better hope you hit the vital jugular or neck (spine) there, if you miss you just killed a deer that you will never retrieve.
over the past i have had this situation happen a number of times while walking into a spot, i have passed every shot and simply shook my head for letting it happen and smiled to myself thinking wow was that a nice deer that i almost outsmarted by getting that close.
i would pass this shot everytime, to me the battle was partially won, but i would end up calling it 1 for the deer for living to see the next day.
just my opinions,,,dont take offence by it , i meant none.
cheers..

Well, its been years since ive taken my bow out, but, It's ruttin' time, so as I am in a great position, well camoflaged, I would use my grunt tube ever so softly. Then play a little hide and seek as we all know W/T love to do so much. As the game continues, a real soft doe bleat as the buck comes in for a close inspection....WHACK! no questions asked, just ....WHACK!
