Called this deer in while i was rattling, thought it was a doe at first. It was running to me. Today when i was rattling and using the doe bleat. I missed a buck. I should of stayed where i was. Seen his tracks after, And could smell him. Still time left and i will try to get him. Mark can you score this deer for me:-D And yes the shooting in this area is up or down , Very steep and a pain to walk in. Shot the top of this deers heart off. We tried the heart and liver and it is good.

I think this little bugger will just fit in the frying pan. It is a big change from last years two , three pointers that i shot up there.

That is the record for the smallest buck someone has posted on here. Good on you, and you must have great eyes to have noticed it was a buck. Thanks for the pics.

it should be l.e.h. if thats what happens. that why regulations were brought in to stop over hunting. a question of game management. unless theres a deer cull i would have passed on this little guy to let him get bigger for next season.

No, I put it on the wood pile, so the coyotes can drag it across my neighbors lawn down the hill from me.

I got a WT deer this year that was a spike and had a roast from it ,it was the best meat I have ever had.

This spike you got will be as good as eating lam ,congrats on getting this good eater http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon6.gif http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif.

I hope he isnt talking about putting spike deer on LEH . Its hard enough to catch a blacktail out in the open as it is.

if every one is shooting them as mentioned before then why is it so hard to get a blacktail? and the leh would be two, three or four point or better just like in region 7b areas. or no leh and just the point regulations.

These are coastal black tail deer not interior deer , They are alot harder to hunt then the mule deer. As their habitat is almost straight up or down. In all my years of hunting them. I have only seen three four pointers. They had a LEH for them in 1996 And it was for does in the Harrison area.

I coulndn't imagine a LEH for LML Blacktails.I have been out 5 times and have only seen two does and they ran out in front of my truck on the way home.So not everyone is shooting them. Anybody got any advise for a frustrated hunter trying to get his first Blacktail.

I grew up on the island and shot a few of them. It took years to figure out how to hunt them and come home with a buck each season. I only shot little spikers when I was a kid, but thats just my choice and I know it doesn't matter to you, and that's o.k. with me.

Thank you Pappy . I wasn't trying to be a jerk. This is the first deer of the year for me. So I'm not going to be choosy. Rock creek was a bust , Hardly any deer including does. Lots of big cat tracks.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk either or pick an argument. I just think that if theres a lack of mature bucks I would choose to leave the spikes to grow and hope they make the winter avoiding the cats and wolves. as for your first buck Ironball look for fresh slash to three year old slash and scout before the season if you can.

ruger#1

There is no lack of mature bucks in that area, The snow level has a lot to do with it, The bigger ones wont come down until They are pushed down by the snow levels. Im the only guy that hunts that area hence the key for the gate.

Agreed - might have had my 12 year old have a blast to get his first, then again even he has minimum standards.

Think he might lose a point or two on symmetry, but a Pisscutter nonetheless. ;-)
