I'm thinking about getting a dog this spring, and I'm wondering how many of you take your dog (on a leash) hunting with you while hunting big game, and how many of you just leave them at home.

I take my dog on leash. She is trained to go into a down position if i need to shoot and she is also trained to follow me closely while on her Jager lead so as not to get hung up in the bushes ect.You need a mentally stable dog for this kind of teamwork.

I would love to but at 9 months old my pup is not ready for this yet. So he stays home.

Mine's trained for trailing. He gets in on a "few" kills!

That's AWSOME fisher-dude!! Usually when I'm hunting I try and be as quiet as I can be, and I think a dog might screw that up. But on the other hand I also enjoy just going for a hike, and a partner would be nice!!

That's what my wife and I are looking at. I've talked with huntergirl270 awhile ago and she gave me some good information. Where did you get yours from? We've been looking out in Ontario mostly. My uncle used to have one field trained and I have fond memories of him. I've wanted one ever since!
