Try to find a copy of Descent into Madness, the story of Michael Oros. He was a crazy man that lived in the bush up by Hutsigola Lake (near Teslin Lake). It is a good read.

I read the Mad Trapper of Rat River at about age 9 and was very impressed. I actually went to see his display at the RCMP museum in Regina in 1988, and then did a road trip with a buddy to Fort McPherson, near where the events took place, in 1994.
One of the norths most famous bush pilots, Wop May, was used to find Johnson's tracks and help supply the posse. IMHO, Johnson would not have been caught, had the plane not been involved in the hunt, he was an incredibly bushman. His most notable achievent was traversing the Sunshine pass in the dead of winter(especially considering the gear he had), a feat that supposedly had never been acomplished before.

I wonder what octane that guy ran on. Does one need to be mad to be able to do what he did? Very strange story imo.

Did someone mention something about a long-lost insurance policy????:)

Spend too much time alone in the bush and it can happen to anyone.

Deathhunt! Great movie, even if only loosely based on the true story.
