Well I just got my bear from this spring all rugged out, and picked it up from the taxidermists yesterday, and couldn't be happier.

I have a question for those of you that have your rugs mounted on the wall. How exactly do you get it up there securely? http://huntshoot.coastangler.com/hunting/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

thanks,
ryan

I use finishing nails.

There's no harm in pounding them through the hide?

Ryan, it might only be my opinion but I don't think it would look too natural hanging on the wall and eventually any kind of nails will stretch and tear the hide, wouldn't they? Fred

Yeah Fred, that is what I was worried about. but ultimately it really needs to go on the wall because right now it's sitting on the only open floor space I have in my small apartment and eventually someone is going to step on one of the claws or kick the head by accident.

I just got my bear back and it has about 10 loops in it for hanging so you can hang it in any angle

I take it your taxidemist didn't attach "D" rings to the quilting on the underside. Who did it?

ryanb

Nope, no D-rings. A local guy up in Pemberton did it. Great job too, and a price that will put most taxidermists to shame.

All the rugs I have had done was suggested by the taxidermist to use finishing nail. Never had a rip from them. They are very small. Even when taking off the wall I leave the nails in the same holes for reinstalling.

When I had my grizz done the taxidermist sowed a ring on the back or each paw so it can be hung facing either direction.

Nice looking rug. I hope to get one that size with my bow this spring.

I have hung up many bears the hide does not stretch or tear, most finished bears have felt on the bottom of them if yours does put the tacs through that,

Man, I want to get a black bear and get it done as a rug. How much does it usually cost?

islandhunter

about 800 bucks for a small-medium bear i believe

CanAm500

And what is considered a small-medium bear?

Marc

The average going price is around $150 a foot and the bear is measured from the nose to the tail. So if it was a 6 foot bear then the price would be around $900.00

Marc.

I enquired about the cost at one of the local shops here and marc is right on that is exactly what they told me.
