View Full Version : POLL: Time of day most deer are taken?

Just a simple poll. Think of the deer you have bagged over the years. Were most taken in the morning, or afternoon, or before dark???

Mine have all been in the morning and during the time around rut, but I have seen the majority of bucks in the evenings. It's just that in the evenings, I have found that opportunity doesn't present itself as often.

Just curious to see what the poll's outcome will tell. Maybe nothing at all, or perhaps a trend to a particular time of day.

Mid-late morning or early afternoon. That said, I always see more deer in the morning than in the mid-afternoon, but all the times I've pulled the trigger, or been in on deer, it was usually midday.

BT, WT and MD most have been withen an hour of high noon. I have personaly shot 25 or so deer. The funny thing is my wife and main hunting partner all bitch about the fact I like to hunt first light even though I have only shot one animal in my life near first light. I just love to be out there in the early morning.

Coming to think of it. Most of my bucks have been taken in the afternoon through early evening except for a couple taken in the am.

Does any one use the solunder tables for game time movements/fishing etc.? I have found them to be fairly accurate.

Thinking about it, most of my deer have been midday, anyone who is sitting in camp midday in the rut is just wasting time!
Hunt hard dawn to dusk in the Nov.

Too bad the poll asks for "ALL Deer" instead of "MOST Deer".
Most of mine were in the afternoon.
One was early evening, just before dark

Hunt hard dawn to dusk in the Nov.The darker the day, the better too. Have had less luck on the sunny days, less movement

shot over 100 deer most early morning or late in the day, this is pre rut . in the rut anything goes, midday is big as most hunters have left the bush. grumps

I have shot alot of deer on the island here over the years, in the morning, afternoon and in the evening, but they were all taken anywhere from Oct 20 to the 20th of Nov for I keep all of my licences from my very first year I ever hunted, and the funny thing is I remember all of them, especially my very very first 1 antlered 2 point

First light, I find you see more deer and less hunters. Around here a lot of people don't hunt until after 9am, took me a while to figger this out, but thats when the liquor store opens!!!

although i have taken alot of deer at all times of legal shooting light mornings tend to be best for me as they are going from feeding areas to bedding areas.
everytime i'm with the wife while going out deer hunting ,she has this lil thing where she makes a wish everytime we drive over train tracks and its usually goes like this."a buck in the truck by 9". am of coarse and i am always amazed when her wish comes true as probably 80 % of our deer are in the truck by 9 am or at the very least on the ground dead by that time

I have shot deer at all times of the day, but I would have to say that more have been taken in the morning.
