Leaving today to drive up to 108 Mile to visit my Momma. Going to do my solo hunt once again. This is exciting for me, as my Kelowna chance was cancelled out.

Wish me luck, especially if I get a critter, be my first solo gutting experience.

well today was a very fun day out in the woods - I drove down near my cabin and decided to go to my favourite FSR which I know produces moose, grouse and deer - I turn in to go up the hill and poof silly me forget to put subur 4 wheel drive and get stuck in the snow grrrrrrrrr and I mean stuck - no backwards no forwards just stuck and no shovel - didn't expect so much snow there yet - thank goodness a truck came by and saved the day by towing me out - the kind person told me the snow plows werent doing the side FSR's as logging has stopped for now - stay on the main FSR and everything is good

no problem I still know some decent areas to go to and drive a ways - what is that I see a big moose, a big cow moose (never seen a cow that big) I thought maybe it was a bull who had lost his antlers too soon but then I noticed little tracks (baby) - I tried to snap a pic (remind me to smack Braydon for changing mycamera settings grrrr) missed the photo - head a little ways more up the road and see 4 sets of wolf tracks - awesome maybe I'll get me wolf - just tracks - seeing no sign of deer but come around a bend and there was 5 beautiful yummy grouse - grabbing the .410/.22 I load it and aim and poof - did you know grouse can fly dang fast when shot at under their bellies - excitement kicked in and I forgot to use the sight proper on the gun (dumb butt heheheh) oh well - drive up a little more and see the plow didnt go any further so turn around and head back - wooohoooooooooo grous came back - I see a head bobbing up and down behind a snow bank - ohhhhh this one is dinner - boom - yup supper in the bag oh and look another in the tree - boom - yeahhhhh - I have 2 but I have never cleaned a grouse - thats what Peter or Azshia are for - now what was it agian - stand on wings, pull legs and everything come out but the breast - save a wing on for identification - ewwwwwwwwww gross - but done - my first solo harvest

tomorrow is another day to find the buck I am after but happy I did not come back to mom's empty handed :)

Day 2- left this morning at 6:30 am and decided to try a different approach - warmer out so snow melted on some of the smaller FSR roads - driving into the main FSR I saw 2 nice mulie does and a fawn so I figured could be a promising day. I was surprised pow many hunters are out during the week. I decided to take a little side trip into the cabin

more to come - Mom just called for supper time lol

oops sorry

I know the cabin road has great critter potential. I drove the 10 km to the drveway ans as I turned in I saw someone had broken through our chain gate - they actually bent the posts and broke part of the chain leaving the lock intact - I wanted to drive down and check if things were okay but too many trees had come down from the snow that the road was blocked - I would have walked down but I had my Remmy with me and he is still too small to handle that walk and I was nervous what I may find being by myself.

Seeing that gate damaged sort f out a damper on my day - hard to believe someone would cause damage but after reading some posts here in regards to theft and such, my faith in some peoples integrity has dwinded

I decided to head the same direction as yesterday but the road was busy with other hunters so I called it a day - as I was heading back to Mom's a big digger snowplough had ditched and the driver was trying to get it out so I had a bit of a wait while he worked on it - I was able to see a few more does on the drive but the big bucks are very sneaky and the small bucks no they are safe now

so today I came home empty handed but enjoyed the peacefulness of being by myself - it is amazing how much you learn about yourself when you are alone and how other hunters make strange faces when they stop to say hello and realize your a woman alone and hunting lol

will try a short hunt in the morning before heading home as I have a hockey game tomorrow to attend with Braydon (mom committments) plus Peter leaves for his hunting trip friday and I have to make his food packs

so I made it home safe and sound - drove back in to the cabin early this morning to check if any damage was done to the swing gate as if the swing gate was damaged that would definitely mean somone was vandalizing the cabins - I parked on the road and walked down to the swing gate - there was no tire tracks or footprints so I am guessing what ever happened to the chain gate was a vehicle losing control and turned into our drive way and hit the chain to stop - I hope they were okay

Remmy proved to be a great hunting dog - he can corner a rock and point at it and bark to let me know he has something, it was a little too large for him to retreive though lol - he didn't mind the snow too much until he put his back paws on it - he enjoyed eating the snow and having it on his nose

I saw 3 bucks this morning but none were 4 Point and lots of does, I swear them big bucks were hiding and laughing at my cuss words

I left the cariboo for home about 10 am and made it home 2:30 - now I have to unpack my stuff and pack up Peter's as he leaves tomorrow for his hunting trip

dang it I wanted to get a buck before him lol

well ends another adventure - my new name is grouse plucker lol according to someone who will remain nameless lol

Hey, you may not have scored a buck, but you did a solo hunt....

Scored a couple grouse, field dressed them....Ate them....Thats just practice for when you shoot a deer by yourself....

Glad the roads were good for you and you had a good time...Nice to get away from the craziness of the city I am sure:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Thank you everyone :) I had a blast (no pun intended)

I think this may be an annual trip for me alone :) - already thinking of next season and the new roads I found and new logging slashes

I know there is a buck with my name on him
