Anyone ever preserve a cape? Do it yourself? Send it out?

I'd like to see if I can harvest a yard of buck-skin from a cape
and build a soft rifle case with it.

The best way to preserve a cape is to send it off to get tanned.

But the gun case would have to be from my own buck though.
