Well, it's been a slow start for me this year, but I connected on this guy this morning. Not a monster, but I am looking forward to the steaks - he will be nice & tasty.

For those who are curious, the rifle used today was my Ruger 358win using 200gr Hornady SP in front of BL(C)-2. Dropped him in his tracks.

Happy Halloween!

Well Jeremy, one secret with blacktails is to get off 'the path' and into the timber.

nice meat buck, congrats!

200gr jacket bullets are kind of 'standard' for the 358win. However, I will probably be using a 160gr cast bullet (OMA) out of it next year - when I get some time to fine tune the load.

To be honest, that 200gr out of the 358 does less meat damage than a 165gr out of my 308win. But yes, I didn't have to track him.:lol:

james maybe you need a larger rifle. bigger gun bigger deer. amazing an old round like a 358 had enough power to stop a deer. congrads those black tails are tricky to find.

Nice going, and the black tails in the valley are on the move, Ive seen more track now then in mid October, I also rattled a doe out. She must of been curious. Nice buck stanway.
