Here's some pics I took back in Nov 2007 of the same bull. Nice to see the old boy has avoided the wolves and lions for another couple years.

Great Pic's Dana!

Thanks for sharing, he must live in a no kill zone.

Got to love the rear forks on that guy.

Wow, really great photos! some really good length on those tines. You can sure see how he looks like a young bull 2 years ago and now a mature filled out bull. Great job!

Elk live in scattered little herds in several areas within Region 3. There has been no open seasons for more than 15 years. We are now starting to see them in new areas where we have never seen them before.

He and a couple of his buddies have been seen packin as late as early April in past years. But yes, I will be looking for elk tine this spring in several Region 3 areas. ;)

Ok good, thank you for that .... but where??? Don't want your GPS coords, just what general if you don't mind? Wouldn't mind some pics meself! :-? I can guess south of Merritt (towards Princeton), Lytton area, (old herds) and north and but mainly east of Adams Lake. I did see a cedar tree in the background of one pic so east of Adams come to mind... :-). Hunters can be so coy with each other.

Adams has elk and friends of mine have started seeing them in Blue river which is pretty crazy. Im guessing the elk from Valemount are making there way south.

Not trying to be coy but don't feel I need to advertise this bull's location on the net. A nice bull was poached a few years back and it really had an impact on the struggling little herd.

There are remnant elk still in the Loops even. One famous cowboy poet/ rancher poached a couple bulls back in the 90's. Those elk range from the Loops and up the Bonapart.

Like I said earlier, elk are now showing up in areas they have never been before. Here is a bull I took pics of only 5 mins from my house back in the spring of 2008. I've lived here for 17 years and this is the first elk I've ever seen in the area.

There is a nice healthy herd east of the Loops to with a nice 7 x 8 that i have seen this year while deer hunting. Sorry no pics, besides they would give the area away.

Fair enough. Good to see some elk populations starting to emerge in Reg 3. With all the beetle kill and vast grass plateaus left as a result (for now), elk will/may evetually migrate to it. Winter habitat is the real deciding factor though. Elk used to live the Reg 3 many years but the loss of winter habitat with human growth wiped out the herds... maybe that will change.
