Well here goes. October 16th, 2009. We were hunting west of Williams lake for leh any bull moose. We hunted hard for the 1st 3 days & saw no moose or fresh sign. By hard, I mean we hiked to swamps that were at least a mile off the beaten path, up & over ridges to the next logging road etc. On the 4th day we had some areas we would like to check out a little closer. My son dropped me off at the bottom of a logging slash & as I slowly walked up the old road I would cow call every 15min or so. At about 8:30 a:m I heard something in the 10 ft high xmas trees that sounded like a breaking branch. I carefully got ready for what ever it was.
Soon I heard foot steps coming closer & closer. As the xmas trees parted in front of me, at 17 yards, i saw moose ears & antlers. I wanted to shoot him between the eyes so I didn't damage any meat. Well at 17 yards the 1st shot went right through his antler. I should have aimed a little lower.
He started running & I anyalated his front shoulder with the 150 g. 270 boat tail. He stopped in the middle of the old road & I dropped him with another shot to the head.

After that I made sure he was dead & went back to search for the blown off antler. I found it right where he was standing when i 1st shot him, 17 yards from the road. He was a very nice young eating bull. Just what we wanted.
This is where I shot him 1st.http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/DSC03551.jpg

Well of course we had to celebrate our success, so we had a few that night around the fire. We got going a little late & we dicided to drive up the same logging road & try our luck. we came around a corner close to a swamp that I knew might have moose in it. Sure enough we spotted a moose 200 yds across this swamp. I slammed on the brakes & we all bailed out. We confermed it was a bull. So I made sure he & our hunting partner were ready to shoot & the bull was ready to take off so I told them to shoot. After the 1st shot I could see the bull was hit good. he went down about 30 yards from where he was standing. that was our double header moose. it can't get any better than that. What an exciting rememberable hunt. I'm glad it went so smooth with great hunting partners & great times around the fire.http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/DSC03637.jpg

Congrats bro on your first Canada moose and a sucessful trip. PS tell your son to get a haircut. Glad you guys had a good hunt. Also do you think that one day you might shoot an animal in the body first instead of the horns.
