I recently got into photography last year and have a couple of photos to share. Its been put on hold this year due to a lack of funding with school stealing all of my money, but hope to get back into when I can afford too. And hopefully catch some good snapshots while out hunting next year.

Cheers Hope you enjoy.

Well the camera is the cheap part. It's the lenses that break the wallet. I bought the beginning level SLR camera Nikon d-40 cost me close to 500 after tax and came with 1 small lens. For wildlife pictures you need big lenses and the smallest recommended is 300mm and its worth another $600. The one I want is 500mm and its $1400. And these are lower end models more for hobby photographers. Some lenses are 3-4-5 thousand dollars!

Photography can be ridiculously expensive.
With that being said for hobby people they are making it more affordable.
So for $400 bucks you can have a very nice camera, and then the lenses are up too you.

This is my camera

And this is an idea of what wildlife lenses look like.

When we're out IDing whales the guys snapping shots are using 500mm beasts. One photographer got carpul tunnel in his wrist from holding his camera for so long waiting for the perfect shot!

Nice shots you took. Wildlife has to be the coolest thing to photograph.

How do you place the water mark on there??

I have had a few of my photo's "Borrowed" for a lack of a better word off this site and placed on an G/O site as their own. I want to water mark the rest before the "walk" over to their site.

And yes I know it is the internet, but damn I just wish they would have asked.......

Putting someone else photo's on your own site and claiming they are theirs is wrong. They now want me to "Prove" they are mine, with the who, what, where, when and how BS. I told them I could even send them the video, but since then they have clamed up, due to the guiding season. Still waiting on a reply....

So if you have any info on the water mark, let me know.

Cheers

Well done! Catching the lighting and composing the shots takes time and practice, especially when your subjects are not waiting around!

Kyle - same camera as I've got. You're right on when you say it's the lenses that cost the big money. As with riflescopes, it's all on the glass.

I'm just too shy to post pics - but yours are great.

Just seen that. This is one of many reasons why I do not post pictures on the Internet and the ones I do post are either of an unsellable quality or I plaster a big copyright over it. There are several easy ways to do that. Contact me and I'll gladly tell you how.

But first you write an email to the G/O website that stole your pictures and tell them in a polite business like manner that they have three options; A.) Take the pictures down within 48 hours. B.) Pay the going publishing rate for images. C.) Failing to comply with A. and B. get a letter from your lawyer. It's easy to prove that the pictures are yours if they are taken with a digital camera. I'll will gladly tell you what the going rate for images is and how to prove that the images are indeed yours.

Copyright theft is becoming more and more a big concern on the Internet and I am not as "kind" as I used to be with thieves. Luckily the government smartened up and modifies the law in such a way to give us more tools to protect our property an source of income. The laws could be much tougher on copyright theft but it is a lot better then it used to be.

These are great looking pictures Kyle, you obviously have talent to become a good photographer. Personally I would not display pictures of such quality in large format on the internet without protection.

You're right about the camera. As my wife keeps saying in her photography courses. "The camera is just a box." It's the quality of lens that is important to take quality pictures. But more important than that is knowing how light works and how the camera sees and how to compose pictures.

When I started to take pictures I had camera gear in the range of 15,000 dollars and still the images sucked. Then my wife taught me how to use the gear properly. The difference is like day and night.

BTW - When I first met my wife I was surprised to learn that wildlife photographers use the same tactics as bowhunters to get close to wildlife. Even with a 1,000mm lens you have to get very close to fill the frame with a bird and about 50 to 40 yards for a deer. The closer you can get the better the image quality will be. My favorite lens for wildlife photography is the 500mm lens, it's heavy but not as heavy as the 1000mm lens, and still maneuverable.
