a buddy of mine was extatic when the leh came out this year.his daughter connected on a leh moose draw for region 8-10 with only 3 tags available this year for the oct1-31 hunt and last years odds were 46:1.
now he has not hunted many moose at all nor did he have any idea as to thier habits.
realising this was going to prove to be a daunting task yet he undertook the challenege,he talked to many locals as to possibly where to find them, how to call etc.
well after going out in his sidekick no less then 2-3 times a week since the season started on sept 10th scouting at first with only seeing cows throughout sept and no bulls.
once oct came around still no bulls until last week when they came around a corner and 1 was standing in the middle of the road at last light.he bolted before she could even get out of the truck and chamber a round.
while hunting for her now elusive moose she connects on a 2 point muley deer a couple weeks back ,then drops a spike whitetail.
well after the snow we had here in the okanagan on sunday evening through monday morning the moose were moving and low and behold they spot a bull through the snowflakes at 80 yards away, vicki gets out and puts one shot through the lungs and he takes off into the bush.
they found where he entered the bush only to find him not 16 yards into the trees off the uphill side of the road.(gotta love it when they not only die quickly but drop where ya can get them home in 1 piece).
the moose isnt a monster by any means however he will be an awsome tasting animal and she has finally filled that tag.
cuddos to her dad for doing his homework and working his butt off to ensure his daughter had every oppertunity to connect on a once in a lifetime tag with odds that almost make it impossible to get the draw for.
he weighed in at 455 lbs on the hook and was a 2x4 so in all all reality dad coulda shot it as an immy yet he didnt even buy himself a tag thats how set he was in his daughter getting the animal.
never a prouder moment has been had by vickis parents or sister as vicki has brought home all the meat for thier family this season and pour dad still has not even fired a shot this year.
the best part is that it dosent even matter to him if he does fire a shot
now thats what hunting is all about.
hopefully i can figure out how to pull her e-mailed picks to this thread.
