View Full Version : Monster Rosie Down

Well......spent Saturday up Frenchman's Creek (Somewhere in Zone 2) with my buddies Renato and Travis (Humble Hunter). Took Travis' boat over from the Mystery dock to Wearzat landing, and fished the Quad out of the bushes. (They'd brought the quad up earlier by water taxi).
So there's Renato, who drew the tag, Travis, who owns the Quad, and myself, who brought my mountain bike.
Guess who's riding?
After 14 km of the worst dipped road you've ever seen ......(no, seriously, we have a buddy that does waterbars for roads, and we've never seen a road that you could throw a camper into and never see it again, and certainly not every 100 yards) we arrived in the Valley of the Gods.

Bear dens and shale slides abound. Elk sign, buck brush and free running, crystal clear water in spades. But no elk. We talked about it, and thought "If we could get an overhead pic of where we are right now, we'd probably be sick at how close the elk are."
Just one of those scenarios. You've all been there.
As dusk approached, we had a long (shitty) trip out over torn-out bridges and swollen creeks, so we had to reluctantly leave. Wet feet, wet clothes, and me with a sore taint. I don't ride bikes much, aside from the necessities imposed on me by my hunting addiction.
On the way out I got some nice vid of some goats on a side hill, and had to move on when they bedded down. Travis and Renato had ridden the quad mostly, while I had biked and hiked my way up, so I was dog tired. At the end it was a 850M elevation gain, and about 14 km in, so I was a bit knackered, and begged off on the Sunday AM hunt.
Travis and Renato were fresher than I, and more keen to do "Just a morning hunt", so went in yesterday, Sunday, to see if they could sniff out a bull.

I'll let Humble Hunter tell the story, but the short of it is they're packing out a monster Roosevelt Elk that will make the books.
I'm anxiously awaiting pics as I type.
Too bad I had to work, as apparently I missed out on a grueling, yet awesome adventure.
Pics and full story soon.
Can't wait.

The guides got a hog this year. Seen the pic's but not mine to post. Was in a tough spot, they had to rig a cable system to get it over a washout.

How much is a guided Elk hunt on the Island? Is the price the same if you come with your own tag?

Is it in the Campbell River/Courtenay bow zone that you are refering to?

I was just wondering if the guides on the island know how to quarter animals :|

Some of us can quarter and elk or moose, or caribou, or ram.

Island elk hunts run $20k and up. I'm sure it would be way less if you called with tag in hand. It's the tag that costs the money, guides are cheap.
