So my buddy and I headed up into the bush on friday night, I got out of university at noon, and he got off work and up we went
we set up camp and went for a hike to make sure we could make our way up the mountain in the morning,

We were planning on hunting a big plateau, with heavy bush and some open meadows.

We camped in a little tent, and we had good bags so it was all good, but pretty chilly once we got out of them!

We got up at 5:30, had a fire, had some oatmeal and away we went up the mountain, just as it was getting light we hit the top and slowly made our way through the bush, we were hot on the tracks of a buck, as we could see his tracks breaking through the frost of the trail.

We came out into a meadow and found 10 deer, 1 deer ran off right away, probably a bigger buck lol, we heard a snort, but we made a stock and got with 150-200 yards and my buddy picked out a nice 2pt.

We followed a blood trail and found him about 75 yards away in the thick stuff.
part of the blood trail was liver pieces so we weren't too worried!

so this is the first buck(sorry no good pic, only pieces!!)

So we quarted him out, took neck meat, tenderloin and backstrap, and headed out. My buddy had a big pack so most of it went into there!! lol good deal

I carried, front quarter, tenderloin, backstrap and neckmeat. he got 3 quarters and head.

so off we go back to camp.

about 20 minutes later, still up on the plateau, we see a doe in the thick bush, and up ahead of us on the deer trail is a buck standing there.

*so I raised my rifle * and he takes off. I dropped down off the trail and my buddy went up the trail, the buck stayed looking at my buddy and paused about 50 yards off the trail and gave me a poke at him, and I knocked him down. ( all with the other deer still on my back)

So we gutted him, put a stick in the body cavity and kept going.
we got down to camp at about noon and hung up a game pole, skinned the quarters, had a quick lunch, sharpened knives, and back up the mountain!!!

got up to my deer quarted it and packed him up and head out.

Nice hunt and good job but just a word of caution, "we raised our rifles....", this was the second Whitetail buck and your buddy already had his down so I don't believe he should have had his rifle up. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I just don't want anyone to be getting in trouble when your just trying to but some meat on the table.

Well the first correction would be that they are Mule Deer

but a rifle was raised by him to ensure horns, not to shoot, however I understand how it could be misleading

Great story and pictures.

A relative, a friend if his and me went out too this weekend. Friend of my relative killed a bit ten point whitetail in some steep hole miles away from any road.

I suggested to cut the sucker up to pack it out. However, friend off my relative wouldn't have any off it, says he is particular about wild game meat and spoiling it with dirt. Instead of arguing with someone that can't be argued with the three of us dragged the deer for for about 1.5 miles through the bush, uphill, downhill, over and under dead fallen trees.

I am still sore from that ordeal. Next time, if there is a next time with that guy, I will cut the deer up no matter how loud he protests or leave him alone to deal with.

Good job gentlemen. I've yet to cut up a deer in the woods and pack him out, been lucky enough to be within a few hundred meters of a road every time. I'd say you guys did a great job of slicing and dicing.

Well done boys, looks like you enjoyed yourselves. Should try deboning your animal next time. Heck of alot lighter and easy to do. Anyway, Congrats again:-D

Well done all around, much more enjoyable than hunting on a road!! The meat will taste that much better. It doesn't sound like your hike was that far so packin it out in halves or quarters is the way I like to do it as well. I have spent 2 days getting deer out of the bush in quarters, then I can hang it and cut it like I want.

nice work!
as long as you get it all out and have fun doin it who cares.
my dad has a saying that sometimes applies to me "edible portions of meat" might not know what cut it is but it all tastes good.
