Since I had the day off school yesterday and dad had no work we went out for ducks. We got a few mallards and widgeon. Not to bad.

Today we headed out for a goose hunt (without scouting) and the weather was beautiful. 15 minutes into shooting time a bird enters the field and is heading to the duck pond quite far from us.

We look at the bird and it looked a little big for a mallard. Then it made a squeaky/ funny honk?? Then we saw it was white?? !!!!!SNOW GOOSE!!!!! Heading right to the duck pond to the mallards. I started coaching it straight to us, then it started turning away! It was now flying by us atleast 60 yards away. My dad stands up, BOOM BOOM BOOM. Down come the goose!!!:eek::biggrin:

Turns out it would be the last goose of the day. We had a single canada fly by not interested in us at all. While my dad decided to take a walk to the pond to jump some mallards (worked out as he got a hen) I stayed at the blind. Couple of minutes later a Drake flys over and I dropped it.

So it's our 3RD snow Goose on the island!!!!! The mallards were just a bonus to todays awsome highlight :biggrin:

870: Not to many greenheads in our area either. Beside the public area we hunt on is the land called the dinsdale (talked about on this site) and hunters are ONLY allowed to hunt canada geese on it by permission only. Today when we drove by it there was like 800 mallards in the corn. I think the ducks like it so much because half the corn is still standing and no one is allowed to shoot them there!!

Can't wait to eat the snowy! Seems like the meat of these snow geese are very tender and delicate.
