I had one of the saddest days I have ever had happen to me last week on OCT 15/09 I had to put down my beautiful Moki she was a 12 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever that went everywhere and did everything with me.

I promised myself that that was it after have dogs for 25 years I needed a break but last night my wife came to me in tears saying she needs a dog to trip over and that I am to start looking for a puppy.

So we started looking up Chessie's on the internet when our 2 1/2 year old son Jaiden got involved he is now totally excited about getting his own puppy. He has been watching the "Air Buddies" Walt Disney puppy movie series lately so understand puppies...

So here is the reason of this post does anyone know of a Chesapeake Bay breeder in Canada that they could recommend?

Thanks for any contacts/info.

Hey CC,

So sorry to hear about your loss. Marc is definatly the guy to talk to about cheasies, marshal is a prime example of that. I believe Marshal came from High Tide Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, heres the link: http://www.hightidechessies.com/HIGH_TIDE_CHESAPEAKES/Welcome.html

I have spoken with Gayle a few times regarding cheasies and she is awsome and has a ton of info for you. Good luck with your search and puppies are awsome, post pics when you get your new pup!

We got our Chessie from "Tsunami" in Smithers. 2nd dog in the family from Terry, and we haven't been disappointed. There's also a breeder in Vernon right now that has a litter - trinitykennels.ca. Their male "Storm" is from the same litter as our dog.

No. Price isn't the issue for a PB dog, for me.

it might not be for you but is is for me. im guessing they are too much for me because if the price seems to be a secret i musnt be able to afford one. even though through looking i own a great pb lab for a good deal
came from west coast retrievers in cobble hill, Ian was his name.

They are reasonable priced for a PB with papers $850, plus Dave throughs in some puppy extra;).... Hopefully I didnt step on any toes by posting a price but it needed to be said lol.. Fair price IMO.... free is always good to:razz:

thank you
i dont see how you could step on toes, the prices for labs are everywhere and all ranges i bought mine for 600$ papered feild trial. That price is alot better than i thought the reason i asked is that i have broused and emailed to no avail i was seriously expecting 1200$ +. As it seems there is so few breeders.
The breed has intregued me for years, now having a house and good yard (hence not much money) i am thinking of a chessie as my next dog.
Chase is at his peek now so i am thinking in the next little while.

Thanks Angel

no worries... i have a hard time spending upwards of $900 for a pup. I know breeding and standards blah blah blah.... i want a healthy strong pup that comes from good bloodlines just like anyone who wants to hunt there dog.... but money is money and its hard dropping big$$ in this economy on a new pup.

Gayle is a busy lady. She'll get back to you.

Here is a thread of one of her dogs. This is Marshall, my boy who just turned 2 in Sept.

Hi guys,
Having trouble with email - sorry if I haven't gotten back to some of you. Send me a PM here for the next bit so I can get a message to you. Juggling kids, dogs, work etc. also keeps us busy here. Some nice pups expected in late December - our male (Marshall's sire) is the sire as well - great, proven working dogs with good looks. Will put you in touch with the dam(s)'s owner(s). Hope this doesn't violate regs - if so, just pm me and I'll give you the info.
cheers,
HighTide

I want to thank everyone for their input but we have now found and brought home a new Chessy puppy we picked her up Nov 15 exactly 4 weeks after I had to put my Moki down.

Her name is Cocoa-Bear... :)

Here are a few pics of her and her new owner/friend/buddy Jaiden he is 2 years 8 months old.

She was the cutest littlest Chesapeake Bay Retriever pup in the litter...

Jaiden and the pups mom Madie looking into the barn where the puppies are.

The little one looking up at Jaiden is his puppy we were actually thru pics sent to us the first to pick out a puppy from the litter.

Here is the crazy thing the breeder is a member on CGNTZ and after a coffee/snack we headed out and shot his 30-378 & 416 Weatherby and my 375JDJ & 375RUM rifles... :D

Getting ready for the trip home took us 3 days of traveling/camping from Alberta back to BC and we traveled thru every wind and snow storm there was.

Their first deer hunt and yes they made so much noise that we didn't see anything... :D

Try sleeping in a camper for 3 nights wih a puppy just removed from its mom & litter mates...

I was up every 1 1/2 hours to take her out then it took a few minutes of cuddling before I could put her down. :-?

Super cute pup. Love her name too!

Thanks for posting the price. I thought a purebred Chessie would have been a lot more than that.

Enjoy,
Kasomor

There is just something about a Chessy that is so awesome they are such beautiful dogs/companions...

and Mark like I experienced with my 12 year old Chessy you will also be amazed how soon the day will come that we have to part from our dogs that we love so much and how bad it will hurt when they are gone...

Man I can't believe how many people have hijacked this thread to post pictures of their own dogs. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves...

Oh do you guys remember this one of Marshall  Wow hard to believe he's already two. They do grow fast. Yes Chessies are beautiful dogs. Nice to see more of them popping up on the site.

Thanks for the comments everyone and about the puppy breath...

"It is strong in this one"... :D

I am always surprised how every puppy I have ever picked up their breath smells the same.
