I've been out looking for deer quite abit this year, as my Dad and I wern't able to make our annual road trip with Caveman and his family. I've seen a few hogs this year but I wasn't fast enough. Learned alot from my mistakes, but I decided to take this guy, not huge by any means but topped the freezer up and has made for some great jerky!! I had been hunting with a friend from the coast near Kamloops where we had spotted a nice buck the morning before, so needless to say I went back that night and the next morning. My friend had dropped me off about 2kms from our spot, I walked in started to glass and heard thump, thump, thump as he bounded away. I let things cool off and headed back down the road to see him about 180 yards in the cut. I shot and now he's in the freezer. My buddy didn't go home totaly empty handed, he wacked a couple of chickens, and will be back this weekend to try and get his deer.

After the thump, thump, thump, did you grunt or keep quiet? Nice to be able to connect like that, Congrats.

I just kept quiet, Like i said the day before when I had spotted the bigger deer, he was bedded down with a 2 point. As soon as the big guy got up to leave I tried moving to see if I could see into the bush but the 2 point got up made some loud alarm calls and was off killing any chances I had of seeing the big guy again. So this time I just payed attention to the direction he headed, waited until he stopped running and SLOWLY started to walk back down towrards where he was. Like I said in my first post I've made some mistakes but I've learned alot this year. Has anyone had any luck grunting for mulies?? Never done it myself. I just stay as quiet as I can.
