NO not 4:22 .......There was a ton of Elk hunters out this year... Chris worked his bull for 6 days before finishing the deal... and my Dad was on the same bull for 4 days... we all worked really hard together to put these bulls on the ground...
My Dad made a poor shot on his and I caught up to the bull in the thick timber ... 4hrs later and 3 KM from the first shot... needless to say I was beat tired from the pack... the next morning I was getting set up on a bull to kill and another guy who just came into the area back doored me to kill it ...the guy afterwords admitted that he knew if we were parked ther... that a bull must be close...needless to say he had a long solo pack in front of him....
lots of camps rolled in and we only saw 2 other elk come out...
Oh and we got to deal with a meat robbing black bear in camp this year...word from the wise is look above the meat in the dark when you hear a noise on the hanging pole, we kept looking under the tree that night... as day break broke we finally saw the bugger up the tree.. waiting for us to leave....LOL

needless to say we were super happy with 2 bulls 2 bucks and the whole family there to enjoy it...
it was really tough hunting as the bulls would talk but not come in ... every decent bull we found was grouped with 8-10 cows....

Thanks for the reply, I noticed a lot of bulls dropping as of late ( 1st weak of Oct) on some threads.
I think I understand the comment about hunting them differently.
I usually hunt the last week of Sept. ( which usually runs a few days into Oct), but the last several years the legal bulls have had large #'s of cows with them, and by the time I had located them, they would be heading the opposite direction due to the bugling ( the area I hunt is not very open, so unfortunately bugling is really the only means to locate them for most part )
So I went early (Sept 11th) this year, to try to get to some bulls before they had the cows and see if bugling had a better effect, and also to see if they were "bugling on their own"!!
We did have success, but hunting in in 30 to 35 degree weather sure made for long days, and left me not so sure as to when things really get into full swing ( meaning when bulls start bugling lots but don't have large harems together yet ), as I saw 3 bulls (6pts), but they stayed quiet for the most part.
They did however come in with bugling and cow calls.
Obviously weather helped and the temps dropped off dramatically the last week of Sept, so no surprise to more hunters success as of late.
Curious, did these bulls have cows???,
and have you ever hunted other weeks in Sept or do you usually hit the EK in Oct???

Cheers
