That wall tent photo brings back memories of deer hunting in November with the wall tent aglow from the lanterns and the warmth from the wood stove while bs'ing the evening away.

Great photos!! They're what make the hunt with kids great.

There is a little photo contest going on at the local library that she wants to win. To enter you need to take a pic of you with a book from the library doing what the book describes. She picked out this book and figured we could do something with it. I like how the composition turned out.

Good luck to your daughter in the contest.

Some of the other photo's are very good as well. Keep up the good work. I particularly enjoy the escence of the hunt theme rather than the kill shots. Perhaps it is time for Steve to migrate from Muley Crazy to Gray's sporting journal??

That picture is a classic its sure to win.I can't wait until my two are old enough to go hunting with me. How old were your kids when you started taking them out with you?

Took them out as babies. My son was only a few months old when he was in on his first deer kill. ;) I can remember one moose hunt where we were changing diapers in an absolute blizzard. The cold wind didn't make for a happy camper. :) It has been a lifestyle the kids have grown up in. As they have gotten older it has progessed with more outtings away from the truck. Now they are accomplished backpackers and both love to hike.

If you have seen my Muley Crazy and Trophy Hunter articles, you'd see the escence of the hunt was very much a top priority for me. It has always been about the hunt. Getting a critter down is only a small part of the overall hunt. For me it is more about spending time out in the great outdoors with friends and family and having a lot of fun.

Steve. I have read some of your published work and enjoyed it. Did not enjoy the majority of the other work in Muley Crazy and as such cancelled my subscription. Too much Americano style hunts with five spotters and one dude that paid huge bucks for my personal liking. Seem to remember some form of scandal around Ryan as well, but am not sure of the details or accuracy of the allegations and as such they should not be taken to heart. That being said I have also read Kurt's work and enjoyed it prior to hearing about his fate. Greed in hunting is not a good attribute.

Good on you for your work in trying to differ the standard in those publications, even if you are from Sask.

Keep us informed on your daughters contest success.

It's all Canada eh? I'm not just from Sask and BC but also from Alta. LMAO! That MnT certainly had some big home territory. ;)

I totally understand your dislike for the Americano style hunts. The bulk of the glossy mags are just ads for outfitters, but horn porn is still horn porn. The Muley Crazy boys definately know I'm just a regular DIYer weekend warrior and that is why they have asked me to submit over the years because they know a lot of guys can certainly relate to my style of hunting. Whenever I do another story in the future, I may submit to Eastmans Hunting Journal. A lot of my stuff would fit well into their DIY issues.
