On saturday morning i went out hunting up a old road and heard a few grouse then i looked up and there was one up in the tree grabbed the 22 and got it.Further up the road we cut into the bush and a few more fleww and i saw one under a tree so i grabbed the 22 but i couldnt get a shot before it flew.We came to a little clearing and i had to warm my fingers up in the -10 weather. After my hands warmed up i started walking down the skidder trail and about half way down i see a doe.I had my leh with me so i waited for it to turn so i could get a good shot but it would not turn before running off into the bush.We finally got back to the cabin to warm up.Later that eveny we went down to the end off the road and past the end and what do i see standing in the bush a big(to me) buck.I chambered a round as it started running away than it stopped behind some trees that i had to curve around and pow My grandpas old 308 went off and the buck dropped. With so much joy i took my eyes off it for a split second just enough time for it to run.I went down looking for it and it was nowhere to be found about five minuits later i saw a big blood spot so i knew i had made a good heart shot.My dog could smell it and tracked it for me it had ran down a bank and dropped. It was a 3 point and it took a comealong and alot of dragging to get it out but it was worth it.;-)

Ditto on the congrats and perhaps your Grandpa was really there after all.

I gained a whole new respect for the venerable 'Ole-308' several years back while I witnessed my buddy drop an Immy-moose in its tracks with his... AT BETTER THAN 400/YDS!

Way to go young man.

Whattya mean "Old .308"? .308's are never "old"! LOL
What a sweet buck for a first timer. Glad you didn't try the .22 on him.A memory for you to keep. Well done.

That's one heck of a nice buck, good shooting and nice work on the retrieval. The dragging out is half the fun.
